I'm black, and I hate race baiters with a passion. They collectively set progress back with their exploitive bullshit. I was born in the 70's after the civil rights movement, so racism was NOT the prevalent issue of my time, so I don't look at shit through a race based prizm. At the same time acknowledgement has to be made of past tradgedies, as slavery was one this country's worst. Many of the social programs that were implemented post Jim Crow, to advance racial equality initiatives, are now antiquated and old.
Race is no longer a rampant societal ill, yes there still is prejudice and racisim(across the board), but it's not the defining issue of our time. In fact racism has been pimped, and tapped for crazy paper, how you think that grease ball Sharpton pays for those suits? The media is the sound machine, and I hate when the race card is pulled like a fire alarm for every issue.
While recognizing the struggles and tribulations that blacks went through in the past, blacks today don't have to live life with this constant chip on their shoulder, recognize the opportunity you have and take advantage of it. The little black kid from Bed Stuy, has just as much opportunity as the white kid in Orange County to make it in this country. Bite real racism in the face, and tell the race baiters to eat a dick!

Editorials aren't exactly news coverage. I don't see anything wrong with the yahoo news article right now, though it does look like they changed it since you linked to it. If this guy had told 911 that a talking dog or Ozzy Osbourne had made him kill, then that also would be widely reported.

They interviewed the other minority people working there and they all said that there has been absolutely no racism at all. If racism was so bad you would think at least one of the Hispanic/Black people interviewed in the yahoo news story would have spoken up about it (or at least hinted at it).

Racism doesn't justify murder. Nobody should even imply that. His acts were unjustifiable, racism or not. That needs to be made clear in the media.
I heard he reported the racism but nothing was done. Often HR doesn't want to rock the boat because of one whining minority, so they just hope the problem goes away on its own (ie minority quits). Whether this is the case or not, who knows. Or he might be bullshitting or trying to rationalize his theft. Or he might be fuckin crazy.
This is just what happens after a crazy shooting spree. People are dazed and confused and want to understand what drove the perpetrator to kill. Believe you me, it's nothing new.
But don't you think it's premature to deny any mention of racism without even knowing if it's valid or not?
I mean I can see the annoyance of overplaying the race card and hyperaccusations (my word) of racism, but are you advocating that ALL allegations of racism be stamped out?

Apparently you have zero experience with HR departments, or the EEOC because what you described is the exact opposite of what really happens. The threat of lawsuits for racism are so great and universally feared that any allegation, no matter how minor or trivial, are treated with the utmost care.
I'm not sure where you heard he reported it, but was ignored. All of the official accounts have the company, his own union rep, and even the other minority employees all denying there was ever any complaints, issues or anything else. I've seen it enough times to know when the race card is being played to justify one's own fucked up actions, and this is a textbook example of it.
His side claims there was racism, and his girlfriend claims he took pictures of racist graffiti on his cell phone. This hasn't been verified yet.

Both sides have something to gain by their allegations- the perp's side portrays the gunman as a victim, while the company protects its image and against any possible future liability.
Regardless though, what do you want to see happen? You want to force his girlfriend to withdraw her allegations? You want people to be punished for claiming racism?

Absolutely. Anytime you make false claims against someone, you should be punished as if you committed the action. If it's a civil claim, you can be sued. If you make a rape claim and the guy is facing 15 years, you should face 15 years for lying about it. Too many people will destroy a person (or company's)reputation because there is nothing to stop them from doing so. How would you feel if it was your company that you busted your ass to build for 40 years to watch someone try and destroy just for the fuck of it?
