And we saved over $5k on the items we bought. I didn't list everything we bought, just some of the big ticket items

Based on the "big ticket items" it looks like you saved abut $500. Less if you had to pay sales tax. Exactly how many blu-rays did you buy to get up to $5000 in savings?

Vendzilla: You had to know this was not gonna end well before you posted this thread to the world of WickedFire.

I would NEVER buy electronics at the store anymore. Living in CR I need to bring everything down and I use online sites for all my purchases. Sure you could go sit in line for 2 days, which really isn't that big of a deal I mean it's the same as going camping or something like that but you did spend quite a bit to 'save' all that money.

You know that things like contrast ratio, refresh rate, are just as important as the resolution. Stores like Best Buy don't put their premium products that are actually worth buying on the door crasher sales, they put all the crap that NO one would normally buy on those sales to get you to come in the store.

I research everything I buy because I want to get the best I can get and not end up with shit ass stuff that I then have to send back or try to sell. Sure in my situation I've been 'forced' to do this but even if I lived in the US or Canada I would continue doing the same thing because it has resulted in very nice good quality products that I know will last a very long time.

For example I was looking for monitors. So I started asking what LCD I should get. I had no fucking idea what an IPS panel was, which happened to be a very popular suggestion. I ended up getting the IPS panels and I'm so glad I did. There is simply nothing they can be compared to except maybe an apple cinema display.

I think it shows how far the whole worship of material things has gone... this is like some sort of ritual.

Yep. Even seen the media reports saying how great of a bonding experience waiting in line for Black Friday is. They tried to spin it as this amazing, bonding adventure that you can do with the whole family, and even your friends!

To hell with camping, Black Friday is where it's at now!

The prices I got weren't from Ebay, you can always get deals in different ways. Do you do all your shopping on Ebay? And I didn't list everything I bought either

What prices did you go with? The Best Buy sign that said the tv normally cost $800?

I do a lot of shopping on ebay. As well as Amazon, NewEgg, etc. In less time that it takes to drive to a single store I can check the price at every store online. Most of the ebay listings were Buy it now, meaning no auction or bidding, you just click and buy it and have it shipped to you. No sales tax either, and no wasting your life away outside a Best Buy.

If you are satisfied with the deals you got, great. If you really wanted those products and are in a financial position where standing in line for days is worth a few hundred bucks, then congratulations on your success. Coming in here bragging that you got 10x more in savings than you actually did just makes you look like a fool. As nickCR pointed out, stores like to unload stuff on Black Friday. That $800 tv? Best Buy doesn't even carry it anymore. They have probably been waiting all year to unload those things. Doesn't mean it's a bad deal, but it was never worth $800 either.

one last bump for the road? i know i shouldn't but...

Thanks for the bump. Otherwise i would never have come across this gem.

Not sure why noon tagged this thread.. This is so taggable..

I went to a bestbuy once on Black Friday.. .. Because I wanted to experience it. Around 10 AM.. lol . All the stuff were gone, so I picked up a wii.. But there stilll was a damn long queue for the payment.. Didn't know how else to pay, so I ended up not buying it either.

So much for fun. Small story to tell... But nothing to show for it.
