You're retarded. And I'm not saying that because you stereotyping America. Goodness knows you're 100% correct about gaudy obnoxious Americans. But you're completely off base here. What I see is a couple and their friends and family truly celebrating their life and commitment together. They are obviously all happy and joyous and what could be a better mood for such a jubilant celebration as a wedding? The somber and seriousness you propose is best left for funerals (NOW. If you think weddings are just funerals acknowledging the death of freedom...well that's a whole other topic! ;))

it's awkward and dorky most of the time and i suppose that is part of the charm. i'd rather be there than any ceremony i've been to. often the bride and/or groom are nervous, burned out from all the planning or just plain cranky. they eventually loosen up at the reception, but still, you might as well have fun right out of the gate.
