Best Sitemap Generator?

Hey I have a quick question for anybody that can answer it.

I am needing to generate and maintain site maps so I found this free software called gsitecrawler which is able to create and synchronize google and yahoo xml site maps according to "their standards."

The only problem I have with this software and why I am posting this is that it submits your site map to google and yahoo, and I have heard that submitting your url to the major SE's devalues your site, so is this the same punishment with submitting your site map to have your site discovered, crawled and indexed for the first time? Or is that just another BS rumor?

As long as you don't resubmit your sitemap a hundred times a day you have nothing to worry about.

Also, yeah the second part is bullshit. It isn't going to hurt you to submit your site to an engine using their form but it probably won't help you much either. You're better off just dropping a link to it on a site that is well indexed.
 
I've installed that, but haven't had time to play with it yet. I had installed php sitemap ng, but my site is about 5k pages, it runs on the server and it sucked. It couldn't make it through the whole site without timing out. Theri forum is useless. Even when I strippes most of the code and includes out of the few pages that generate the content it still sucked wind and died.

I'm hoping for better resuts with gsitecrawler.

gsitecrawler has crawled 150k+ pages for me with no issues (splits into multiple sitemap files automatically.) It helps to have decent bandwidth .. on fios you can up the bot count and it will still fly.
