Best place to get advice on monetising forum?

I have a forum with about 400,000 posts and I need to monetize it much better. But since I am currently jaded and braindead, I need to speak to people in the know and with an alternative viewpoint.

Are there any well know experts who offer a service for forum advice? Who would you go to to get cutting edge advice on this area?

Haha yes I do. But I was thinking I might get more comprehensive advice from a forum specialist who might then recommend a whole load of vbulletin plugins etc.

I have put some adsense on some areas of the forum and on the archive, so I get a bit of revenue. But I really think there is a lot more I should be doing. For example, maybe some kind of page which shows member stats, that sort of thing. Stuff to encourage members to participate more. Other features. More adverts?

I'm not sure. Do you have any suggestions?

Ok i got some experience with forums, i recommend you to place a 336 x 280 adsense block right under the navbar. What traffic you got ? If you're in the 7k uniques / day, from that block you should be making ~$100 / day only from adsense.

Where exactly is the adsense? BTW, it converts horribly. I have a forum and the CTR is like 0.01. It is crap. I would suggest you go to Admin Zone Forums

They have a pretty good forum there on forums.

From the current activity, I take it you get a lot of 1 post signups that leave once their question is answered?
 
Hey Jon,

For what it's worth - you might want to look in to any forum upgrades that will enhance your natural SEO. Even stupid-simple things like getting your forum to output url paths like the thread title might help you gain more traffic (hence, gain more members, and gain more rev).

I also wonder if maybe your particular niche could support a marketplace? Somewhere that you could put up affiliate links to relevant products & services that you can earn commissions from...
