The Uncanny Valley
About 10 years ago, I got really hooked on Baldur's Gate 2 (an RPG game if you haven't heard of it). I was at uni at the time, and I just played it obsessively night and day. I eventually had to stop because it was destroying my ability to get any work done.

Anyway, this year, I had some time on my hands in the evening due to arrival of new baby, and saw it on amazon dirt cheap, so bought it on a whim. Turns out there's a massive modding community, with loads of improvements and new bits added since.

It's still just as addictive. The graphics are ancient, but the storyline and character interactions are still better than any other RPG I've seen since.

Anyone else played it recently?

same, but with counter-strike 1.6. used to play it back in the day (when i was 15 or so). played night and day with friends, loved it. recently got back into it and play around 10-20 minutes a morning while drinking coffee then i get bored. my gaming fix for the day.

Great classic PC games cheap = GOG.com

All updated to work on modern systems and OSes.

gog.com includes all the baldur's gates and all the icewind dale games + like 100 other classics.

Same with Steam they have a good selection.

Best game of all time btw....
X-COM: UFO Defense on Steam

anyone here play Minecraft ?

i've been playing it a bit lately haha . we should get a WF server going.

Ive been trying to figure out how to monetize running minecraft server for ppl to play on. Only ideas I have thought of was making signs in the spawn points w URLs on them and make them protected so it cant get grieved or deleted.

I'll never get into games again for the mere reason I know how much a grip they have on me. I beat BG2 the first time, then I bought the expansion and beat it another 3 times...

How do I get every upgrade conceivable?
How do I beat this quest without doing X and X?
How do I win this battle without losing any health?
How do I, how do I, how do I...

I get so wrapped up in them that I forget to eat, forget time, forget everything. I can't miss anything in the game because that drives me crazy, if a quest becomes corrupt, uninstall/reinstall. If I'm losing, it's because I suck and the only way to not suck is to play more.

Well play more I did, CS hooked me for 8 years, EQ 7, WOW 3, CSS 2, list goes on and on.... My CS game got so tight and keeping a rough count, I got banned from 120+ servers for hacking, had CAL admins review recordings of me during matches and they said my mouse moved at impossible speeds(his words exactly) with the anti-hacking software they used. The sad thing was it was true, I played so much, I had become impossible.

I'm still defining what my purpose is in the best game there is, life. Once I figure that out, I'm going to do what I did in games, and become impossible where it counts.

Yes I used to play this all the time... Minsc & Boo, oh the memories
Minsc was a memorable character.

"...ohh I understand now! you said what you did just to get me mad. mad enough to break free! haha! you are as smart as boo sometimes.."

One of my all time fav games for sure.

This....and it sucks, cause i use to love playing those games, but they are such time sinks. I guess thats why i got rid of cable too. Too much distractions.

+1 to this for me too. I was big-time into gaming like 15 or more years ago. Nowadays with a business and a family though, I see no point sitting down for hours and sink myself into a game of too much depth. Casual gaming ftw.

But to the OP - yeah, I used to be hooked on the Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance I and II games that came out for the original Xbox. I liked those a lot, and I completed them both with a friend in co-op. Hoping for a sequel on the 360..

I feel it too, but I play it everyday. lol

Great game. I have a friend that plays it through at least once a year out of habit. Would too if it didn't take up so much time.
