Nobody using norton antivirus?- is this an alarm signal for me?
Also used in the past bitdefender- was always slowing my processes for some reason- just replaced that with norton 2005 and since then I just kept updating it.

Argh.. Norton! TBH not been anywhere near it in years but it used to be a ridiculous resource hog.

I'm giving NOD32 a go, cheers for the recommendations guys.

Nod32 (if possible ESET smart security) along with AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) or any other good anti spyware like Trojan hunter. But remember, Nod32 also finds many cracks and keygens as spyware or Trojans.

Also try this Prevx 2.0 thing. It's said to offer good protection, some say you can't uninstall it though.

I have heard many people say "I am using Avast.... I am using Antivir, haven't got a single virus so far". But the fact is these two (Avast and Avira Antivir) are not that good. You guys have to check your systems with different Antivirus programs (like Nod32, Kaspersky...) from time to time (of course, you'd better run only one ANTIVIRUS at a time).

Most of the Antivirus programs' efficiency depends on the databases of their virus definitions, and how often they are updated. That means they can only find out a virus if that virus is already in their virus database list. This kind of Antivirus programs are almost useless since they can't find a new virus that isn't in their database. Using this kind of Antivirus programs means taking chances with the security of your PC and your personal and sensitive data.

But some antivirus programs like Nod32 (ESET), Kaspersky, Prevx use different technology (like monitoring the status and work of a process) along with virus signature database help. So, to conclude it, using this kind of programs increases the security of your PC.

Free antivirus software: I use Avira Antivir.
Commercial antivirus software: I hear good things about NOD32 and Kapersky, but I have not used them.

The problem with antivirii that's too popular with the masses (i.e AVG, Avast) is that virus makers are SURE to test their creations against them before releasing them to the public.

NOD32 FTW.

edit: oops... I thought you said firewall for some reason. I don't use virus protection software.
You don't use Anti-virus:eek: ? I suggest you once check your system with Nod32. Even if you don't download stuff, there are still many ways that you would get infected with malware. Try Nod32 2.7.39 Download NOD32 AntiVirus 2.7.39 - FileHippo.com

It is very low on system resources and does a clean job. One of my friends used to say he didn't need an anti-virus until his system was infected and he lost a lot of data. He had to reformat it. And even with the best Anti-virus programs your system would still get infected in some rare instances.

Dude youre totally right. I have been leaching free AVG for both my desk and laptop and needed a new option since AVG has gone into nagware mode.

I bought Kaspersky and it is finding crap I didn't think I had. Infected WMA files. All kinds infected dlls and shit. It is still going but has found 25 files in various places including old backups that AVG was ran through.

And the interface and its customizablity is just great.
