Ok, so I have a general news autoblog thats about 3 months old. Its the usual scrape > post > bookmark type of thing. Its untargeted (no specific niche - its a news site as such), just pulling articles based on google trends and hot topics, and gets about 5K human traffic a month.

Now i just got an email (via contact form) from a guy at comtex.c0m inquiring about licensing their content for this blog!!

The company seem pretty large:

CMTX.OB: Income Statement for COMTEX NEWS NETWORK INC - Yahoo! Finance

so I doubt they go about randomly contacting blogs trying to flog their services, so why have they contacted me?
Do you think i scraped some of their stuff and they are getting ready to stuff me?

My blog says its a news agregator, and original sources are linked at the bottom of all posts, but i doubt that will really do much good if i have pissed someone off!

Anyone ever dealt with this company

Shithead, what did the letter say?

C&D or just asking for money?

If asking for money, just take the shit down.

Neither, yet! It just stated very simply that they would like to speak to someone about licensing their content for [blogurl] and could 'we' get back to them as soon as possible.

Its just an email, sent via the blogs contact form, so it could be from anyone, but the contact details all checkout.

At 1st i thought it was just some random company trying to sell their services but they seem a bit large for that!

They may be fishing for information, they may not be. Either way I'd ignore it until I got a C&D or something formal.

Keep quiet until you get a C&D or served. Consider dropping their content in the mean time.

Ok, thanks.
The ignoring i can do, removing content not so easy. I have no idea what stuff is theirs.

Just wait and see i guess.

Search the db for posts containing their url, delete, 301 elsewhere on site.

I wouldn't be surprised it there's a plugin for that.

I wouldn't sweat it... until they send the C&D

they look like another penny stock dilution scam anyway.. recent 1000:1 reverse spilt probably fucked over their last shareholders

Deleted and redirected anything that had their url or name in, thanks.
Hopefully i haven't scraped anything else of theirs that didnt actually contain their url or name.

Ah autoblogs... I added an autoblog to an old herbal site once, pulling yahoo answers. After a month or so my whole site got google slapped bigtime. I removed the auto blog and my rankings returned to normal after a couple of weeks.
