Erm.... I'm not a fan of Wikileaks, and think Assange has made a huge mistake...
But he's not a citizen of the United States of America, so how can he be a traitor here?
I do agree that he is an enemy of the United States and many other countries now, but traitor? Not unless Australia says so, and that's the only country he can be a traitor in.
Arresting and detaining him on these charges was a really foolish idea. Should have just sent out an assassination team and killed him. Our government and many others take this same route many many times. Sure it would create a huge conspiracy theory tsunami, but who gives a shit? It wouldn't stop Wikileaks anyway, because dislike Assange or not, he's just using misdirection and getting the world to focus on him rather than total attention on Wikileaks.
I hate to make this reference, but for the first two years of WickedFire, I acted like and felt like a Julian Assange with Wikileaks. I was humbled after being sued (arrested in his case), and toned the fuck down. I still maintain to this day that I did what I had to, that I enjoyed the publicity for the first 10 months, but then missed my privacy as part of the COMMUNITY and GROUP soon after.
This is the direction things are going in Assange's case, except clearly on a much more serious and far more enormous scale in comparison. Friends of his, real or not, are making an attempt to help him in the beginning, but as this drags on, he'll soon see his own baby (wikileaks) keep soldiering on without his fight being the absolute focus of attention. People he thought were friends will drop him, although there will be those few true supporters and friends that stick by his side fighting the good fight throughout the ordeal and afterwards too. Whatever the outcome, no one will want to hear about what he went through, but they will all nod at him in respect to his face, but behind his back will not hesitate to call him names and their original opinions changed... and on and on and on....
All of this could have been avoided had Assange just kept his mouth shut, stayed the fuck out of the spotlight, and had everyone focus on the collective group with no absolute leader. THEN it would have been "impossible" to target and stop. It would be sorta like the ANONYMOUS campaign, which as much work as the leaders of it are doing, have been smart enough to not break out of the "we're all anonymous" formation, and thus, are able to swiftly apply "justice" on targets that no one in their right mind would consider attacking out of fear of public or private retaliation, but hiding amongst the crowd, are able to participate as they are needed.
Cliff Notes Version = Assange, I feel your pain, even though I disagree with Wikileaks, but if you really wanted to inflict damage, you should have gone the anti-hero route like ANONYMOUS does, and use the collective force of the people to accomplish your objectives. Now, its just a clusterfuck.
