Are You A Narcissist?

I've always known I was special and destined for greatness, but until I took the Narcissistic Personality Inventory last week, I never knew just how special I was.

In many cases, people with narcissistic personality disorder:

Are self-centered and boastful
Seek constant attention and admiration
Consider themselves better than others
Exaggerate their talents and achievements
Believe that they are entitled to special treatment
Are easily hurt but may not show it
Set unrealistic goals
May take advantage of others to achieve their goals

Other common traits of narcissistic personality disorder include the following:

Preoccupation with fantasies that focus on unlimited success, power, intelligence, beauty, or love
Belief that he or she is "special" and unique, and can only be understood by other special people
Expectation that others will automatically go along with what he or she wants
Inability to recognize or identify with the feelings, needs, and viewpoints of others
Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her
Hypersensitivity to insults (real or imagined), criticism, or defeat, possibly reacting with rage, shame and humiliation
Arrogant behavior and/or attitude

There's no cure for this, because it's a personality type, so I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with it, although I'm trying to be more aware of the ways it manifests itself in my day to day life so that I can not be quite as much of an asshole to the people who inexplicably care about me.

What about you WF? Are you NPD?

You can take the test here.

I scored over 30.

I bet that's better than you.

I think you just described 97% of the Western world. Or at least every OWS protester.

Really, how many people under 30 you meet don't think they're unique & special these days?

I agree with you on this.

It certainly seems like our culture reinforces any latent narcissistic tendencies people may have.

I think it started with transistor radios, the very first personal on-demand entertainment devices.

It's been going downhill ever since.

But, what if I actually AM better than you? If I actually achieve what others consider 'unrealistic goals', have such awesomeness that any time I talk about it it sounds exaggerated, etc ?

I'm a narcissist and I like it.

Test though, is stupid and broken:

17. If I feel competent I am willing to take responsibility for making decisions.
17. If I feel confident I am willing to take responsibility for making decisions.

Well, being a narcissist and having NPD are slightly different things.

I suppose it's best viewed as a spectrum disorder.

I don't dislike being a narcissist, but I'm starting to see how it affects people around me in a negative way.

What the fuck is this shit?

34. I am going to be a great person. / I hope I am going to be successful.

I already am a great person and a successful person. How the fuck do they expect an answer? :D

And this shit:
37. I wish somebody would someday write my biography. I don't like people to pry into my life for any reason.

Both are true. I'm super private, but once I'm dead, fuck that write about me bitches. My life is balls out interesting.

edit: Most of the test is like that, both options are equally true. Poorly designed test.
