Common thoughts seem to be either a monthly subscription to listen to the entire apple music catalog (pretty far fetched), or a web based iTunes hosted on an Apple cloud as Apple did acquire Lala earlier this year.

Hopefully its something to do with bringing back the lala.com service they bought and closed. I loved that site.
Yeah, Macrumors think it's likely to be the announcement of a cloud-based iTunes, which could be supported by their new data center in North Carolina.
They don't change their homepage for small stuff. They only do it when they have something like iPhone/iPad to announce.
My guess is something big with iTunes as mentioned. It can't be something minor or they wouldn't hype it like that.

They've decided to use their incredible sheep marketing to market good products, rather than shiny, shitty products?
