Anyone want to go halves in building a real-estate empire?

I would actually pay for some shit like dat.

inb4 dem crack heads start running around in the park.

Do you really think the locals would just let em do that? Like if someone came to your city and told you move out so they can build a fucking amusement park where you live?

Why not just offer free demolish services to the owners of all those vacated properties and plant a bunch of trees or let them build new houses as replacement. It wouldn't look nearly as bad.

I don't get why the city hasn't just auctioned off entire blocks at a time to developers. Give a 3 year property tax shelter on the auctioned blocks and forgive any outstanding liens. Start auctioning blocks closest to Canada and move northwest.

What you will achieve:
a) Immediate and future income for the city.
b) Get rid of high crime problem areas block by block.
c) As each block is auctioned, bought, razed and developed each neighboring block becomes more attractive.
d) Jobs for Detroit demo crews/construction companies.

No one wants to buy a lot or two when effectively what a developer needs are entire blocks you can demolish and plan just to be safe and ensure higher property value.

It costs about $10k to demolish each house due to asbestos removal and other shit. By most estimates there are at least 40,000 homes that need to be torn down because they are too far gone. Very few of those lots are even worth the demolition cost. Who wants to pay $10k for a random vacant lot in the middle of Detroit, especially when you add on the ridiculous property tax?

This has been offered numerous times, but there is normally a lot of push back from residents, and incompetence from the political leadership. The tree farm initiative I linked to above took over 4 years to get approval, and is still hated by most residents. Originally it was supposed to be an actual produce farm to feed hungry families and the people of Detroit started screaming about "we aint never gon be no sharecroppers!!1!!11" and other irrelevant racist shit. It's fucking weird, but some people would rather live next to a crack house than a farm. So they pushed it through only if he agreed to plant trees instead lol.

Most of the problems in Detroit are cultural. There's a lot of poor places in this country, but only one Detroit. It's like the fucking Twilight Zone sometimes.

That amounts to $400 million. There's probably a bunch of people living in detroit with a net worth higher than that. I'm sure the city/govt could afford the price tag as well. Then let the people rebuild properly like the first settlers who came there.

Why not come in and buy up a bunch of the houses. Bulldoze them down, plant some nice grass so it looks pretty. Then just sit on them until they are worth something?
Or farmland. Detroit is evolving. There are people who care about Detroit and trying to give the city another chance. Part of their solution is to bulldoze dilapidated houses and plant crops. A recent "60 Minutes" segment featured the people who are trying to rehabilitate the place.

Remember the rumors about Russian companies offering pirate hunting charters? This could be fun in Detroit. Just fill a limousine with AK-47s and charge $1,000 a pop to troll around the Grand River and Livernois blocks with some dollar bills on strings.

They've been talking about razing the place for awhile now. The feds have given $52 mil to get started on tearing down 4,000 buildings. But as the video in the first links points out, there are 78,000 abandoned building.
