So I was dicking around on Youtube yesterday and somehow came across a YT channel that showed iPad game demos. A lot of the games looked really fun, which lead me to checking out some more stuff about the iPad. I am now considering buying one. I have a netbook, and do most of my work at home on my desktop, but I think the iPad would be cool to have for work (meetings etc) and for fun (something to keep on the coffee table at home).

Just curious if anyone here has an iPad, and if you think it's worth the $.

My girl uses one.

She says it's more absorbent, so ya I guess it's worth it.

Have one, it got repo'd by my tween

For a toy, it's worth the money ... lack of a usb port kills any real value that widget might have (movie machine). Typing is a bitch too, but it's ok for normal surfing while taking a shit.

I got it. LOVE IT. And if you travel a lot and love to read, totally worth every cent. If you want it to replace your laptop, no.

it's a novelty, it's not for work other than light emailing and maybe checking non-flash analytics apps. It could be a really nice presentation tool for pitching local/brick and mortar clients though

My mom freaking loves hers because the alternative was her 5yr old Dell. But I would never get one. It loses its function when you already have a desktop, iPhone, and laptop.

Perfect for meetings of the minds and such. Beats bringing a laptop everywhere. Perfect for learning outside. Reading, watching videos and task pro to keep track of things to do. We bring ours everyday to lunch to go over new ideas to test.

Now we can't live without it.

It's great, but it's no replacement for a laptop (even if you use a proper keyboard).

For example, you have to close (not minimise) programs to switch between them. Pain in the ass for proper web work where you have photoshop, firefox, textpad and and html editor all open.

It's great for checking email and reading magazines you get off bittorrent. It's great for watching TED talks while you're on the treadmill at the gym. The games kinda blow IMHO. A lot of newspaper apps are great. I also use the Mashable and Tech Crunch apps a lot - I prefer them to reading the sites.

But it ain't a heavy lifter so if that's what you want it will be a disappointment.

It's a content consumption device. Not a content development device.

Yeah, I don't plan to do any heavy lifting on it. Just play some games, watch some movies, and generally dick around. I have a netbook and desktop for doing work.

Anyone know if they are coming out with a new version soon? If so, I'd probably wait for it to come out.

Wait for the WWDC 2011; they'll most likely release a new gen of the iPad, and probably the iPhone.

Where's the niche for the ipad? I use the computer all day for work and play, sometimes its better not to be wired in. Returned my ipad.
