Anyone got their parents into working online?

My father has been very interested in trading for the past few months and has been reading non-stop on trading. Yesterday I helped him set up his first position, and today he sold it for a good gain. Haven't seen my dad as excited as he was today in a very long time. Heck, he was speaking to the neighbors about the position he took, and how much money he made, and trying to sound as technical as possible. Made me laugh, but at the same time happy to see him so enthusiastic.

Me: "Here you go, your new Facebook account"

Mom: "Well, I don't know if I like this."

... 5 mins later ...

Mom: "No, this thing sucks. Take me off! I don't want everyone knowing everything I do!"

Me: "But mom, they only know what you tell them"

Mom: "But look! I can see Angie had pancakes for breakfast, Teresa watched a movie, and Leslie went to the fitness center. This is fucking retarded! Take it off!"

Me: "Ok"

lol

ROFLMAO!!

This is EXACTLY how "I" feel about Farcebook!!

I have a private account that has only 1 friend, and that's my Fiancee'.

She had the BALLS to JUMP MY ASS for not updating the RELATIONSHIP status after she FORCED me to setup a personal account!!

I mean WTF?! It is PRIVATE and I have no friends to see it so what does it matter?

I mean come on, we are both almost 50 years old now.

My Mom is retired and in her late 60's, She had me setup an Anonymous/Fake Facebook account so that she can "Stealthily Spy" on her friends and the family!!

I got tired of her calling me to use my account to get her stuff off eBay, so I set her up with her own PayPal and eBay accounts.

She still calls and asks me to use my Business Accounts to get her stuff!!

LOL

My Mom & Dad can barely turn on their computer without finding some new & exciting way to fuck it up. I swear they get a new PC every 8 months because it gets so bogged down with useless applications and spyware etc., but I digress.

My Mom makes some amazing country type craft stuff and she sells it to friends/acquaintances. They even put in orders when the holidays come around because they all love her work. I've tried time and time again to get her to let me make a little ecomm shop for her stuff, but she says she doesn't want her hobby to be work. I can respect that I guess, but I know she'd like to have the extra spending money. They're both retired and don't have tons of cash, but if she doesn't want to make it her little business, that's her call. Less work for me anyway.

I taught my mom some blogging stuff about 5-6 years ago and she did pretty well for a while, making an extra $1-2k/month (which isn't bad for the rural midwest). She was writing content, trading links with other bloggers, etc., really getting into it. I also taught her to do eBay stuff, so she did alright with that for a long time, too.

However, she didn't like keeping up with all the changes and I think she eventually got bored with it because she went back to working a day job as a nursing home activity director.

Fast forward a few years, and she recently decided to leave that job. I have her writing content for me, and she's very well suited to the job. I get great content from a native English speaker, and she gets her freedom back + some extra cash to spend on antiques.

She and my brother-in-law have been great outsourced help, but that's not to say I haven't had bad experiences with trying to help older acquaintances or relatives. Most of them are giant disappointments who make me overuse LMGTFY.com before dismissing them out of frustration.

I don't know your mom, but I do know that there's very little you can hand off to someone else as a failure-proof turnkey system that will make them decent money indefinitely while also being enjoyable most of the time (unless you're just going to straight up hire her for specific tasks on an ongoing basis). Failure and experimentation are so crucial to most of what we do, and someone who can't deal with that without getting discouraged and quitting is going to have a hard time eve getting anywhere.

Perhaps the most important thing, if your mom is anything like mine - are you prepared to spend hours and hours answering questions and explaining things, then answering more questions when something changes, when her site gets hacked, when she needs some little thing modified, etc? If she has the kind of personality where you know she'll be very independent about it and pursue her own solutions to problems, it might not be so bad, but a lot of adults have a weird learned helplessness or insecurity about the internet. That can cause you a lot of headaches if you're not careful.

Even worse, you may find your mother interacting with other internet marketers and inviting them over for pancakes. I'm terrified that one of these days I'm going to return home to Illinois and find Illyas in the dining room.

Must Check !!

I think if your Mom gets retired or old aged, then the best thing you she can do is to help you in your daily need Works which can make her busy. Don't give her time to watch Fucking TV Shows. The time you think you have low Work load, ask your parents to go for a Trip so that they can enjoy their time without taking care of any responsibilities...... :xmas-smiley-030:

My mom recently lost her job after working 50 years with the same firm. She is way too proud to ask for help. One day I was over at the house and she nearly broke down in tears. I said "mom whats wrong"? She couldnt look me in the eye, I knew what was wrong. She was having money problems and was board out of her mind from having to put up with my dad all day. So I said to her if she wanted some help I could help put her in buisness. She was a little reluctant when I sent a crew of 4 guys to wire the house up for video and sound. She didnt really understand why we needed to put all those cameras and microphones into the house. I simply explained that all she had to do was live her normal life and everything would be ok.

To my great surprise my parents are still leading a very healthy "relationship"; mom is upto about 5,000 paying subscribers ($5 a month) and is really enjoying having an extra $1,500 a month to help her replace her income and cover most of her living expenses

Yeah this is exactly what I've worried about..

Even worse is that I worry that she might feel I'm forcing her into it and is actually only doing it to try and please me.

I think i'll have to leave the idea for now - maybe throw a few hints here and there to see if she does have any interest and pretty much leave it to her.

Cheers

My mom got interested in working online after I proved some success in it.

She is still learning HTML 4 and Photoshop 3 though from one of my "dummies" books.

Yes.

And then I fired him for being a lazy ass, who basically mooched off me for cash.

To be fair he was a loser when we started.

I love the guy, dont get this wrong; But he smokes to much weed, and given the chance will do nothing but sit on his ass all day.

The Moral? Get your parents into online coin, sure, whatever. Dont fucking "Partner" or "Hire" them. End of the day, You cant manage them - or they will end up trying to manage you.

My parents are both entrepreneurs (each have their own businesses) and do well for themselves.

I'm in the process of redoing my mom's website (I redid it for xmas but she hasn't switched it over yet). She's really into the idea of getting leads from the web from blogging and Adwords.

My dad is a little more stubborn. He oil paints as a hobby and sells a lot already, I'm trying to convince him to set up an online store but he doesn't think his price range (around 2-5k a painting) would do well on the internet. Some of my dad's work:
