Anyone Ever Use Billboards For Local Marketing?

My favorite billboard was this one by Sam Bernstein (a huge personal injury lawyer in Michigan):

The balls and brand equity you have to have to put up a billboard without the entire phone number because YOU KNOW that everyone that sees it knows it's 1-800-CALL-SAM.

I don't advertise using these methods, but can pass along a tip I read a long time ago. Buy ads on buses and subways for better visibility. If you think about it, you'll realize that people are stuck on these transportation modes for 10 minutes or more, and they really can't help but stare at the ads. People just drive by large billboards. Transportation ads are probably a lot cheaper, too.

Just got a call from one of my local clients... he owns a building right next to the
I-96 expressway and just but a big banner on it. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Helped out with this a few years ago

Lifelong Oakland Raiders fan. Some of us banned together and spent a few bucks on this close to the arena.

didnt work...

Since it was a waste of money, can you elaborate on the process a bit and what your results were?

Auto industry.. Results are REALLY hard to track.. If any, they were way too low. Per comparisons to the months with and without them. In short, I can put our advertising budget into way better things, with a massive ROI compared to billboard ads. I would say their for everyday services, like pluming, grocery store, cheap products, but how often do you buy a car? Once a year if that, some people drive the same one for 7-10 years. So bad niche, yet the auto industry loves them since it's "on the road" and "relates" to people already driving.. I don't like them though.

The first call is going to be from the city to take it down. Every city and county has rules on signage. If it were that easy everybody would do it.
