Anyone else living in Costa Rica?

I personally didn't like Panama all that much and have heard the same from people that have lived there. I think it's nice to visit but it's really hot, humid and uncomfortable. People are not nearly as friendly as in CR (in my experience). It is however a great place to setup corps and business related things, but not a physical location or office. That is of course just my opinion.

Ditto this. + Panama girls are ugly as hell compared to Ticas (and as nick said, not nearly as nice). There are some nice Colombian assets in Panama thought, but the proportion of pretty to ugly girls is terrible.

However if you want the best of the best you need to visit Medellin, Colombia. Costa Rica will not disappoint though.

@greenleaves: Fuck ya, pretty sure we're going.

How did you end up in CR ? I would love to live in the tropics.

ncmedia, I think your are making a wise choice :)

Parents moved here when I was 7. Went back and forth between the west coast of Canada and CR quite a few times for extended periods up until I was 21 which is when I decided to make the move permanent. I have been down here for a total of 16 years now.

If anyone else has questions, feel free to fire away.

Hi Nick,

As still cannot PM will ask you here.

I google it few times past last months, but i want an opinion from a local person :)

I and my gf are planning to move to Croatia, Malta or Costa Rica in next 6 months.
As we are EU citizens, for Malta and Croatia/as of 1 Jul 2013/ there is no need to fill any documents or whatever to move there.

But about Costa Rica. It's one of our exotic options as EU couple. How hard will be to move? We will not looking for a jobs there. We own few internet properties. Just looking for a place to live and have fun. Also what is a price range /to rent/ for a detached house in 10-15km from coast.

All the best

I don't have enough dealings on the beach to really be able to give you a range. I can tell you in San Jose you can expect to pay between $1000 - $2000 depending on location, etc.

Before you make any moves out here contact immigration or a immigration lawyer and find out how much you need to invest. I believe it's $200K like ncmedia said. So you know you would need that as a min to get your residency. You could come and go every 90 days but you never know when they change the laws and stop allowing that "loop hole".

Thanks.

But if we decide to move out of EU will use "loop hole". I do not have an intention to buy a property somewhere before live for 1-3 years to see will we like it.

Just Costa Rica for us is something between "too west/police" and "too messy" :)

All the best

costa rica is the greenest, happiest country in the world. safest country in central america. better medical care then USA, 97% literacy rate. 18% poverty [one of the lowest in LATIN america].

Yeah it's gorgeous and the water is clear, warm, and full of cool shit. Wahoo, roosterfish, tuna, dorado(mahi mahi), caught fresh a couple hundred yards off shore. Haven't been in a long time but my uncle lives there full time and we drove there a couple times as a kid. He bought a place in puriscal in the mountains and has 85 acres of jungle near the coast there. As a kid we camped all around in a cabover camper, it was awesome.

Probably heading there in a week or two. Where are the more developed beach cities with decent infrastructure?

I don't want a tourist shit hole, but I don't want to be connectionless in the boonies either.

Pretty much just Tamarindo or Jaco. But Jaco isn't exactly the nicest beach or place. There aren't really many "developed" cities by the beach here. Pretty much anywhere you go here these days will have internet whether its in the hotel, restaurant, etc.

I think your best bet will be Tamarindo and that area. PM me if you have any Q's.
