Anyone else just not give a fuck about nice things?

It's not that you don't care about nice things... it's just you want to live below your means so you don't go broke. But I'm pretty sure if you had 10 million in the bank, your viewpoint would change pretty quick.

You say you want a nice car, and nice house. Yeah... for now lol. Once you get them both you'll start looking for something else to buy.

I got pretty much everything I need in life... nice fully paid for house, new paid for car... Wifes family has house in bahammas, we have a bay house in Kemah buy the boardwalk, boats etcs.

It is not all the shit one has that makes him happy or how much money that is in the bank account. It really is being happy and content with what you have that matters, I dont wear fancy clothes shit I dont shave half the time. My wife would love for me to dress better I really dont give a shit about all the stuff in life, if what is between my ears is not right nothing is..

Dont get me wrong having money in the bank and a few toys is not a bad thing, but if you think once you get this or that you will be happy you will find it is temporary and does not last.

Get whats between your ears right and everything is alright... that is not always easy.

Hmmm, good for you guys. I don't spend much on clothes, but that's largely because I hate shopping.

Other than that - I want condos all over the World, yachts, exotic cars, first class trips.. It wouldn't really be a 'baller' thing or for show, I have no blog or guru shit to sell. It's just personal choice to want finer things in life, particularly when at one point you've had nothing. It's something objective to work towards. Whether others know about it or not is of little concern, preferably I wouldn't want them knowing about it even if I had it all.

I don't see anything wrong with either position.. Different people have different means of reaching contentment or staying motivated.. As long as the process of achieving it leads you to work harder, it's all good.

Ping. Seriously, I come from the completely opposite viewpoint as PJ. I spend money -- on stuff that makes me feel happy. Good clothes, living good, traveling a lot, bitches etc. etc. Sure as fuck I don't go around flaunting it (that is no way baller but an insecurity and lack of depth) but everyone is different.

this. We had this discussion before but I think there's a misconception of "balling" in the US.

My Thoughts on Ballin.

Being a "Baller" would get to be a pain in the ass really quick. When people see you flaunting it with all that high end shit, they will instantly work an angle to try and get a piece of you. You'll always be wondering who your real friends are, or are they just with you because you pay for drinks and dinners everywhere.

I love to keep people guessing as to my economic status. Hell, my own parents are constantly asking if we're doing ok and if we need any money to pay the mortgage etc.. If they only knew how much money I was stashing away in the bank every month, they'd shit themselves.

I've said it before, but for me this would be the dream:

Mortgage - PAID OFF
Cars - PAID OFF
Kids College - ALREADY IN THE BANK
The freedom to work as much or as little as I want, and from anywhere I want.

I'll buy shit for my amusement from time to time. I like having a good quality T.V. and computers. I buy brand name stuff, but only if the quality if truly better than a generic brand.

I don't own a watch or any jewelry
I have no toys, boats, waverunners, motorcycles etc.
I have a truck and a Nissan car.
We have a nice 3000 sq/ft home, but not even close to being a mansion.

Ballers can ball if they wish. I'm not hatin on that lifestyle. But I'll take money in the bank so I can retire in a few years over that stuff any day of the week.

being baller is "showing off". you don't need to show off unless you are an attention w'hore. and i am not one.

I don't care about luxury things at all.

All I care about honestly is not having to work as a Walmart greeter when I'm 60+ due to some crash in the market or some other financial disaster messing with my pension or retirement accounts.

I care about not being a wage-slave to other people. Because working for others IS slavery. Your income is capped so that you can't earn real financial freedom.

So Instead of buying an IPad, bling or trendy stuff I paid off my house and cars and have a sizable savings. A 2400 sq ft house is all 2 people need to live in. And I won't upgrade in lifestyle unless I have an incredible amount of surplus savings even after purchasing a new more luxurious house with cash.

I'm so cheap my main computer is now over 2 yrs old and I have an internet based business. But shit, it still plays all games I want to play perfectly.

The only luxury thing I ever dream of is an indoor pool and hot tub to relax in. That'd be nice :)

I guess I am not seeing the point to NOT taking a few days worth of AM earnings that could replace an entire wardrobe with nice clothes. I'm not talking about $400 armani t-shirts, moreso just some nice fabrics (Tommy B., Polo, Armani Ex 'cheaper than straight armani', sprinkle in some La Coste and Burberry) and you look superb without breaking the bank.

I like more of a subtle brand name, i.e. small logo in the corner chest area. But any writing across the chest or huge logos is nasty.

I've asked this question to some spoiled brats I know that think they're NOT fashion flakes. The question was simple.

"Would you wear that $150 polo shit if it DIDN'T have the little symbol of the polo guy on the horse on it?"

I've yet to get a YES answer out of them.

To each his own. Yes, I have polo shirts. And I think there's an Armani suit somewhere, too. But in the hot summer, I'm more comfortable in a tank top or sleeveless shirt catching some sun, in loafers and $25 shorts. Who gives a fuck if you look in "style".

I can see wearing nice things for social meetups, etc. and not looking like a tard, but if you guys can't leave the house without wearing that polo symbol or in $500 threads, I dunno, I think it's kind of like a cloak of failure hiding the real problems inside.

I'm a "minimalist", too fucking lazy to upkeep too many stuff. Plus I hate clutter.

My goal for the next 2 years is to buy a boat, live in it and invite bitches over to party errry day.

Honestly up until now I didn't even know what a polo shirt was. I've heard the name but had no idea how expansive AND how fucking gay they look.

Cool thing about our biz is we can wear whatever we want and don't have to worry about looking "professional"... so throw away those tight ass polo shirts and get back to the basics...

Absolutely, same here.

The only big luxury I desire is building my own house from the ground up. It's really not so much a splurge, if you know what you're doing and you find the right spot you can build the same quality house for cheaper than buying an existing building. I can do a lot of the work myself and wouldn't mind it one bit knowing it was my place. Still quite an undertaking, from what I've heard.

My dream house isn't even luxurious. It just has everything that I personally want, where I want, just the way I want it.

EVERYONE has different motivations. Sure the core motivations are always the same but somethings always outweigh others. And as a marketer I would have expected you to understand this -- surprising that you went on a rant.

I'm not ranting, or hating on anyone who does like those things. It just seems like in this industry we have a high rate of people who act like "ballers", whether or not they have the money to actually do so.

I wasn't really referring to a 'logo' but I like the durability and feel of some better fabrics. Don't get me wrong though, I have some shitty shirts from touristy shops that feel quite comfy.
