another legal question, lol.

I appreciate all of your answers, and i am glad i posted quality rack picture, because so far no flaming. All of Your advise is greatly appreciated, and i am no longer as stressed out as i was earlier.

I have definitely learned not to do anything without a contract, this shit is so fucking stupid.

I just gotta tell my boss i may be getting some personal mail to my place of employment, LOL.

Some of you are reputable on here, and i appreciate your time to give me advise, really.

Tell him to go piss up a rope. The best he could do would be to take you to small claims court. No lawyer that is worth his salt would take this on.

The guys email threatening legal was too long-winded. He looks like the kind to argue on instant messenger etc. ALL TALK. Plus as previously mentioned he cannot afford a lawyer if he's getting 'friends' to build him sites for peanuts. Lighten up, relax and move on or again as previously mentioned, threaten to rape his mom just for kicks. Whatever u choose, its really not worth sweating over.

This is what will happen, if he is serious.
He will pay someone to find you, your address, phone number and if he is lucky your SS#
He will them sue you in his local small claims court, and win because
A. You had an agreement
and B. You will not be there to defend yourself.
He will then take that win and use it to affect your credit. He does not need a lawyer for small claims court.
He can sue for the full amount plus court costs
Sueing and winning and sueing and collecting the money are two different animals

You do have a contract - a really shitty one put together with emails and verbal communications.

Don't think there is no contract just because there is no formal document.

What's more -

If you're found to have breached the contract and the remedy (to put him in the positioin he would be if you didn't) means he can pass the costs of fixing the problem onto you it could be a lot more than your $600.

He's probably a fuck tard and it'll come to nothing, but your effort in finding those titties behind an office firewall is worth giving you a decent response.

What if he wont accept his $100 back? he attempted to pay the deposit in payments, which i accepted - because he was a friend.

Hello friend,

What kind friend hire lawyer for sue you for $100? I no think he a very good friend.

Good luck bro

I think the point that most people here are missing is the fact the client still owes the OP for his work. What is the guy going to sue for and how can he do it if he hasn't paid for the work?

I'm not trying to be arrogant here, I just don't see how he can do this.

How about the 500 bucks a day he's losing because his site isn't live.

Just saying... there are many things.

I would deffo not invite him around for a chat without public liability insurance, sounds like a right cunt.

Always have a contract. Always bid per project (not hourly bs). Always get a % (if not all) of the cash upfront. It would be up to the small claims judge to determine a fair settlement for both parties.

as many have said already, you've got nothing to worry about. just think about it, would a lawyer who charges upwards of $500/hour want to take this case? he'd laugh in your friend's face for bringing this matter to his attention. no lawyer would want to take this case unless he's pro bono. haha they've got much bigger cases. i'd say refund his measly $100, take back the site and try to sell it as is on flippa. who knows you may get more than $100 for it.

If you did 90% of the job, plus tons of extra hours, and agreed price was $600 shouldn't you be suing him for $440 (or even more if you count the extra revision hours...???)

Real legal advice:

Tell him he's a fucktard and you've already called Judge Joe Brown and you'll be settling it on TV. He can expect a call any day.
But don't actually call anyone, just cut your losses and stop responding to any further communication.
