Two months ago a professor who came from Australia for a research conference in Michigan had a similar experience. It was also a hate crime of same type and the attackers did not know he's from another country. He was attacked, robbed and admitted in hospital for two weeks.

WTF, why was a tourist partying in Baltimore? Every year in the top 3 for murder, its basically a zoo there, without the cages. Strip a guy naked take everything he has and then piss on him. He would have gotten more respect at the zoo with the apes!!

I don't know. I just love how all the news channels are now reliant on Youtube videos, Twitter feeds, and Facebook posts for their news now.
I like Baltimore, been there several times and enjoyed myself. Then again, being from Detroit maybe my whole frame of reference on crime and violence is a little off.
They recently started attacking hipsters in downtown Minneapolis. I am not a fan of hipsters, but I don't know if they should all get beaten and robbed by mobs. It even happened right across the street from 2 cops once recently.
