America, fuck yeah! Tom McClintock on AZ Imigration Law

medicalhumor, that is great that you agree with that speech.

The bashing you see here - in my case - is from a 24/7 shock and awe onslaught of "Arizona is Racist" attacks from every liberal media bastion.

So yes, it IS a generalization, and obviously you shouldn't be tarred with that brush.

In my experience, the word "Racist" is Liberal code for "I quickly lost the debate on this issue. But because I *feel* I am right, I will call you offensive names".

I actually read a lot of what you say in these political threads- you seem far less crazy than the typical foaming at the mouth right wing ideologues here....

So I have a question for you with regard to your support of this law:
a) have you actually read the bill

b) have you seen any videos of or talked to any cops who actually OPPOSE this view (they are the ones who will be risking their lives potentially here)

c) do you have any immigrant friends and have you actually talked to them to try to understand why they may feel the way they do about this law?

d) have you talked to Americans who invest their cold, hard dollars in Mexico or businesses that rely on trade with Mexico to see how this will affect them?

The reason why I say this is that most rational people actually are interested in trying to understand the other side's perspective - if for no other reason than the intellectual curiosity.

Lastly, while I agree 100% with what he had to say about the President of Mexico being wrong to lecture Americans on our immigration policy, I can tell you as a free minded ethical capitalist he is wrong on alot accounts when it comes to how it's going to affect the pocket books of alot of Americans....

As an example, as an American if you want to invest in Mexican real estate, the tax laws are VERY FAVORABLE to you. You can set up trusts and easily will property to whomever.

Secondly, for those who retire in Mexico, the Mexican government goes OUT OF ITS way to cater to you.

Yes the average person who opposes this law will not be able to afford a $660,000-$5M house in Mexico to retire. My point is for those of us who want to take advantage of what Mexico has to offer (or other foreign countries where they welcome dollars), shit like this makes thins more difficult for us all...

wow, generalize much? I'm liberal, just ask Helllblazer or Popeye, they'll vouch for me. However, I happen to think that was an excellent speech. That had nothing to do with being conservative or liberal, it was well presented and made perfect sense. Not sure why you feel the need to make this a liberal bashing..

Sorry for the generalization, sometimes happens. But if you read my stream on Facebook with all my good New England High School friends crowing about the injustice and racism that they ascribe to anyone who supports this bill, you can see why I generalize.

Good for you for not following the herd. And if I ever get the chance to talk politics with you I bet it would be a great conversation.

Awesome speech.

Since this is one of multiple threads here on the AZ law, it's assumed most have seen this or know they can read it if they have 5 minutes to spare.

While a bit more to wade through, it's important to understand how the state law merely mirrors certain points of the Federal law, but here is a relevant section:
United States Code: Title 8,1357. Powers of immigration officers and employees | LII / Legal Information Institute
(a) Powers without warrant Any officer or employee of the Service authorized under regulations prescribed by the Attorney General shall have power without warrant—
(1) to interrogate any alien or person believed to be an alien as to his right to be or to remain in the United States;

But doesn't this encourage racial profiling? Sorry, but any complaint about AZ law should also point out the similar language present in the US statute, otherwise it's a bunch of misunderstood, media influenced bullshit. I support Arizona's attempt to force the feds to take a larger part in enforcing the existing law. That's all this is BTW.

Also, it's interesting logic that because a handful of folk may want to retire abroad, we should water down existing law so as not to piss off other countries.

Damn......

While you bring up some valid points, this is only valid IMO for LEGAL immigrants. I am not saying you are talking about the illegals, but I am sick and tired of hearing the "oh noezzz you gonnnzaaa split muhhhh famillleyyyy up" argument. They have nothing to do with this, if they would have come in legally that would not have been a problem.

You need to accept the fact that if you break the law (yes, contrary to popular belief it IS in fact illegal) there might be some consequences, and that might be your ass getting sent back to where you came from (be it Mexicans, Germans, Japanese, French, whatever). The point is I don't have sympathy for everyone trying to make us feel bad about people who broke the fucking law. Think about a murdered, he gets sent to jail and raped, do you necessarily feel bad? Maybe a little, but point is if he didn't want to suffer that consequence he should not have broken the law in the first place. And yes I am aware that this is an extreme example, but my point is simple, if you break the fucking law be prepared to pay the fucking consequences.
