For the associates part of the Amazon Affiliate network, if i want to do PPC and i dont want to use the get HTML but instead use the affiliate link to the site do i just click on the name of the item and use that id? for example:

hxxp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0545010225?ie=UTF8&tag=YOURUSERIDNAME-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0545010225

I would use the link generator for specific products to be sure you have the correct link code
and if thats the code it gave you for html it should work

Errr...

Get the HTML link for specific TEXT links.

Now you can just replace the ASIN for diff. products.

That's the way I'm doing it as well, it's a little confusing which linkcode is right since it can vary depending on the type of ad you choose, but the one for textlinks is foolproof.

i'm sorry but i dont see anything for text link. all i see is:

and also, only thing i see is this:
1. Life of Pi
Author: Yann Martel; Buy New: $11.20

where is the spot for textlink? oh btw, i called amazon but the dude was no help and he didnt know what i was talking about (regarding associates) he sent me an email but it was unhelpful.

Try the following:

Click Build Links / Widgets and then go to Product Links. Select the product type in the first box and put the ASIN in the second (note, I have had problems with ASIN numbers not being found when leaving 'all products' in the first box).

Click the get html button and then change the link type to Text Only. This will re-generate the link for you.

From then on you only need the same html and replace the ASIN number. If you're not bothered about tracking what people view then you only need the first part of the HTML, i.e the <A HREF.....> tag.

Hope that helps.

In fact, scrap that. After having a quick look over at the Amazon discussion board. The link format you need is:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/ASIN-number/?tag=YOUR-ID

Obviously, you just need to replace the ASIN-number with the ASIN number of your product and replace YOUR-ID with your associate ID.

thanks a lot man!

Edit: whoops - i get:
