How do you impliment Ajax on your sites? Do you think there is any value to it or is it a gimick?

The only really good use of ajax I've seen so far is used in Vbulletin.

Any other examples of good ajax use - beyond gimicks?

just yahoo.com?
you know i never use yahoo for searching. i still think of them as a directory / portal than a search engine

I don't really see much ajax used around the place, except vbulletin like u mentioned.

I use it for simple things like submitting feedback, voting in polls, user contribution (vote thumbs up or thumbs down).
There's plenty of these small things that AJAX is great for. But I would never use AJAX to design the entire site.

One thing that worries me is that Ajax minimizes page views. It doesn't matter so much with PPC ads like Adsense, but it could hurt you if you have CPM sites up and running.

Even little things like Ajax commenting, normal comment systems add a pageview every comment, you don't get that with Ajax.

I was gonna say the same thing. I use it on my riddles site and I must say it stings a bit when I think about all the pageviews I'm missing out on.

So that is likely the last time I'll experiment with AJAX.

I've been using "ajax" via Microsoft Remote Scripting for about 3 years. Although it can be used to do some nifty things with form verification and things of the like, there aren't many incredible uses for it on the average website.

It's definitely not over-hyped though, it (or something like it) will be a major part in online applications as they begin to become more and more popular.
