Affiliate Marketing while Under 18

You can do it , there will be tons of hurdles to overcome.

I started in IM when I was 14-15 , REALLY wish I would have stuck with it, I might be a few million dollars richer :)

It might be a good idea to try and explain it to your parents. I think most of us would be happy to set up an account for our teenagers so they can start an enterprise. When you turn "of age", it probably wouldn't be a big deal to transfer it to yor own name.

That's the best answer so far.

It's a wonderful business for anyone under 18 to try their hand at. The skills you learn such as media buying, seo, ad text writing and other stuff are invaluable job skills in this day and age. Even if you don' make a mint as an affiliate you will be able to get a decent job with those skills somewhere. A parent would be nuts not to do this for their child.

Having a parent set up the account for you takes care of the legal liability that most networks have.

Harpo: Mr. Doe you are sued for 10 million
Mr. Doe: Haha im 15 not legal sucka
Mr. Doe's Mom: Shit, there goes my life.

Haha, yes that's pretty much how it would be. But, in the program's eyes at least the liability isn't on them.

It's much the same as when child stars are signed to movie or music contracts. The only way it works is when the parent signs for them. That way if they don't fulfill their obligations there's someone to take the heat.

Did your parents tell you to ask WickedFire when you ask them if you were allowed to AM?

Do what ever the fuck you want. You can always make up your age unless they ask for ID, then you gonna have to get photoshop.

I had adult programs and pay per click banners on my warez and mp3 sites when I was 16.

That's what I mean. A parent could also be the responsible adult and keep a kid out of trouble. Even if the kid isn't breaking any laws and has a genuis IQ, he or she is still inexperienced. Some parental oversight is a good thing.

And it's not just the risk of the kid getting in trouble, but the risk of getting suckered. I see experienced adults on here complaining about not getting paid - how much more vulnerable would a kid be?

As I've written before, my own teenager runs a little PHP coding website in his spare time. He makes a few bucks and learns a lot. You don't have to push rebills to make money.

After the clamp down on facebook ads, I see plenty of other products that are being displayed. Since I see those same products day after day, and they don't involve cleansing a colon or Oprah, I assume that somebody has figured out how to make money with them.

Do you have to be 18 to do affiliate marketing?
You can do a few things if you want to sign up for an affiliate network but are under the required age.
1. Ask your parents/older friends
2. Create an LLC or a sole proprietorship, get a EIN (like SS# for companies) and lie about your age.
