Ad:tech impressions?

I checked out the hall yesterday (only have exhibit hall pass), but was a bit underwhelmed. Got to talk to a few network reps and some other folks but didn't learn anything groundbreaking new. Free skateboard decks handed out, but I don't skate so that doesn't wow me. Lot's of hard-sells about how "we are the best network, with exclusive offers and highest payouts", bla bla. Didn't think it was worth $50.

The parties around it were better even though I didn't get one of the meeting202 iPads (never won anything in my life, dammit). Guy:girl ratio too high all around, but I guess that's expected. Good thing I had two ♀ friends with me. :) PPC.bz+EWA wasn't bad, good drinks, but the place was too big for the relatively small crowd. At least during the "exclusive" part from 9-11. They should've closed off upstairs early on so people concentrate more. Left around midnight as we had to catch BART.

I was surprised Plenty of Fish had such a big presence here. I remember how for the longest time Frind prided himself in running a one-man show. They been stepping up their game lately.

Did anyone go to the full conference? Did you find it worthwhile aside from justifying the price to yourself?

And yes, the concert was good.

Nicky, where's paradise? It's all cold, gray and rainy here today...

idk dude, honestly I found this the least productive show ever. Even ASW was better for me. I guess that after a few shows the $$ you gain from it just gets less and less

ohh that's great, it's gonna be 12 months now until you get message saying they aren't allowing affiliates to advertise on their site anymore lol

And you guys prove my point so you've seen most of these sources twice, did you arrange to have any conversation with these people beyond "yo thanks for the biz cards and schwag!"

I will continue to say, most of you fucks don't understand business or do business, have fun knowing the same as any random that creates an account. That way you can run to wickedfire and cry and whine about your shit getting rejected instead of calling up the connections you've made at the shows. hurr durr fo sho.
 
Great trip. Business and fun wise.

Just one new profitable traffic source can pay for the trip many times over in a day for me. Maybe I'm just an idiot and don't know it though.
 
just got back tonight... still have that 420 scent on my hair ;) lolwut

the exhibit was ok, met a few good companies, but as always the most valuable time is afterward at the hotels and bars, met some really great people... Overall trip was 100x worth it..

P.S. but wait..what i really meant to say is the conference totally failed..if you went you know what i mean..but if you didn't or havent in the past, i recommend you NEVER go..just stay home.. its so not worth coming, i mean affiliate marketing is dead anyway right?
 
I can say the shit after the show, was awesome. Meeting people and talking methods and ideas is always great, lots of shit got shared at Witchcraft and a few dinners I had.

However, I have to honestly say the show itself blew fucking hard. Literally 90% of the booths I stopped by to inquire about buying traffic either had:

1. Hired help to just pass out cards/scan badges
2. The new/noob reps. that didnt know shit about their platform anyway
3. "the guy you wanna speak to is not here" type shit.

I basically got a shit ton of cards and flyers and almost no info somehow even though I would talk to 2-3 people at their booth and asking multiple questions. Good thing I gave out fake biz cards to the ones that didnt know shit and made sure my badge didn't scan too.

Now I gotta go thru these cards and contact the "real" people that work at these places and get my info from them on the phone. Thats the thing I dont get, why send your fucking noob reps to these shows, only to have them hand me someone else's card that didnt even fucking go? On more then 1 experience I had someone ask me what media buys were...

I always call and follow up, but it would have been nice to talk to someone that knew their shit and was the rep I was gonna follow up with, instead of essentially cold calling a faceless person now that doesnt know me from Adam.

Show fucking blew.. but the shit before and after was golden.
