Tropical SEO » How to: Build an Affiliate Site You Can Sell for $1M

Normally I wouldn't post something from a "guru" blog, but this is actually pretty interesting. It highlights a lot of the problems with smaller affiliate sites that are too close to the trees to notice the forest.

Some worthwhile thinking points, like "Is my traffic diversified?" "Do I have a variety of income sources?" and "Is this a sustainable business model moving forward?"

A little long, but a pretty worthwhile read for professional affiliates.

I agree with you on this one. I'd never been to Tropical SEO before and didn't bother to read any of his other posts, but he is without a doubt right on with this article.

Many people think of diversifying their revenue streams across multiple sites but not so much on each individual site, at least I haven't read it anywhere else before.

Diversifying traffic is something you hear people talking about a little more often but still not as often as it should be. My current project us receiving a majority of its traffic from one source and maybe 10% of my traffic is coming from 4 or 5 sites.

Today I noticed a huge drop in traffic from stumbleupon, of course this is going to happen, but I didn't plan ahead enough to try to build traffic from other sources and it hurting me bad right now.

No matter if you plan on selling your site or not these are important things to consider for the financial security of your site
