Abstinence Education Doesn't Work.

I went to public school and I dont remember any conversation like that. All they said was make sure you're having sex for the right reasons, and until then, abstinence is a good option.

They also definitely presented other options and multiple forms of birth control. You guys are really stretching the truth here on this one.

If you're talking about me, CL, I'm going by some of the stuff we were told in 8th and 9th grade at a private school in the middle of the bible belt. While what Andrew said isn't a direct quote, it's pretty close. They used scare tactics that were nothing short of asinine.

No, I was talking more about znine.

I can definitely see them focusing on abstinence at a private school, especially if it was catholic/religiously affiliated school.

So what you experienced was not abstinence-only education, which is what some of this federal money is being spent on, and certainly is being pushed hard by the far right.

Sorry for the lack of clarification. I went to a public school. We had an abstinence only section to the sex education and then the other stuff completely separate. Very strange. What I said weren't exact quotes but they were the gist of the lectures on the subject. In private schools it's completely insane from what I've heard from friends who attended one.

For what it's worth, my ex went to a Catholic school and they all fucked like bunnies and drank. Much more so than at my public school.

Yeah, I saw this episode, you can probably find it online. The clips from one of the abstinence education classes were laughable.

I went to a private high school and the shit they told the students was a fucking joke. Condoms fail sometimes so they won't protect you from HIV, your boyfriend doesn't really care about you, and so on. The people that are teaching this are so self-delusional that they can't even understand what the kids are actually interpreting from what they are telling them.

Not to mention the fucking Vatican banning the use of condoms and passing off abstinence as the only way to prevent AIDS in Africa (and around the world). How many people are dead or dieing because of this bullshit?

I went to a Catholic school and had the same experience.

The worst part was that they brought in 2 big speakers each year for a full-school assembly to reinforce their message. The presentations included very graphic pictures and exaggerated statistics. The mandatory health class didn't include any information about condoms and contraceptives.

The funny part is how ineffective it all was.
