Yup off the top of your head that's a good start. Off the top of my head I'd add dried beans/lentils (rice is 4x cheaper and has more calories hence lasting longer though), good binoculars (this can be done with a scope on your rifle), water filters (I do have purification tablets, but sand + carbon + a shirt can filter out most microbs given you wanted to drink raw, or boil it?) and purification drops, survival knives, a frame pack, fresnel lens, gas mask (got about 15, you can get finish masks off ctd for $12 bux), heirloom seeds in nitrogen, a few hundred pounds of soil builders & nutrients, solar battery charger, vitamins, minerals, and a shit ton of 12ga shells (I'd hate to pick out buck shot from my prey, thats why I'm stock piling 22lr for smaller animals. But as for multi-kill with 1 shot protection that a shotgun would bring, I got a few mossbergs).

You want precious metals for barter if nothing else (Agreed. But in a complete shtf scenario, with my guns and added precautions I took rest assured I'll be able to take what I want - fuck bartering - as captain jack sparrow says; "take what you can, give nothing back"). And fuck the ars buy aks (Don't agree, I personally hate ak-47s and 74s. I have both of them. I have several, several ar-15s though and prefer this as opposed to the ak-47 for various reasons). and a couple glocks (several 17's and 26's) and a remington 700 bolt action rifle (got 2 remington 710's 30.06's and also have a a few 308s) with a long range scope.

Wouldn't mind a WF survivalist thread. h8 on Dresden all you want but he has the common sense to put some of his money where it very well matter most. I agree ,people should prep - but Thank ya sir, lol

Remember, this will never happen overnight, as none of these countries would like to see their central bank US$ reserves to have no value at all all of a sudden.
Agreed; but the "transition" to it happening is happening right now.

How many people that read these threads are bald, or have an enormous amount of grey hair or wrinkes? Yes. It's good to be prepared. But it's better to have a positive attitude and not let this kind of shit effect our lives. It will effect them in some way yes, but you choose to let it effect you negatively, or you just do more to live a better life and not let shit get in the way. I've got too many things to do than worry.

@ Everlonglp3; 27, black hair blue eyes no wrinkles brah. "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst". Although I try to live a happy life, preparing for the unexpected is ideal, necessary and responsible especially with the government the way it is.

Stop panicking! You can always switch to lorries powered by diesel engines - diesel engines can use any oil, including cooking oil, chip fat oil, and peanut oil (you guys grow lots of peanuts, right?)

As for cars - if you don't fancy a diesel car, you can always buy one of those VW flex-fuel cars that can switch between ethanol and petrol. I believe Brazil currently uses about 16 million of these (they are awash in sugarcane-based ethanol and their petrol stations all have ethanol pumps too).

There are always alternatives. The sky is not falling in.

I love how you 'got' panic from that. I used the word "PREPARE" which means be ready for it. Not telling you to jump off a bridge or that the world is going to end.

Honestly I DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK if the USA spirals into hyper inflation. I live in Costa Rica and thankfully we have an abundance of local fruits and vegetables, as noted by another, it's a small supply chain and easy enough to even just get directly from the sources. People still live in wood/tin homes without electricity. Most of Costa Rica is powered by hydro electric. Oh and funny enough the only thing that sunk when the US market crashed were the developing beach communities where it was strictly based on Forigen (American) investment and tourism. Those people could no longer afford to maintain both a home in CR and USA so they sold their property for a fraction of the price that they bought it for.

Not "hating" on dresden and it's always nice to prepare but maybe your going a little overboard. Just my opinion. You'll get the last laugh if things do hit the fan though, but I'll take that risk. My dad is some what similar and stockpiles food, silver(idk why) and what not but not guns or anything. At least I know someone that will be prepared.

For the past year or so I've been "fantasizing" about getting away from it all as I'm sure everyone here has, some more than others. Just seriously considering what could happen in the future, worst case scenarios, genuinely wondering if shit will hit the fan in the US. So many signs point to yes, it's not hard to find stories about civil liberties being violated or people being exploited by the more powerful...I can feel it in my own life. I want to be prepared just as much as the next guy but I can't help but think that this is just being blown out of proportion.

It's easy to only see tyrants, political fat cats, Illuminati shadows, even your asshole neighbors who want to fuck you over. But at the same time I can see so many people in my life that have good hearts. I don't want to turn this into some love spiel but I genuinely believe that the majority of people are capable of greats acts of kindness, but more to the point, PROGRESS. This whole doomsday crisis relies solely on oil, but is that all that human technology is capable of? Oil? I'm not always up to date on the cutting edge of scientific breakthroughs, but it's something I like to read in my free time. I can't help but think that freaking out about oil is just a tad pessimistic. Every day we make new scientific breakthroughs, becoming more and more efficient. Just a few days ago I was reading an article on a LED light that produces more light energy than it consumes in electrical energy by consuming heat in its surrounding area. I remember another article about how in developing nations with little existing infrastructure, it will actually be cheaper to invest in solar power by like 2020 or something. Every year, more and more potential energy sources are being discovered, and previous one are becoming more efficient and less expensive.

I'm not saying that there aren't forces that be that will try horrendous things to try to hold onto and consolidate their power, and they may very well succeed, if only temporarily. But I'm not sure I want to live my life preparing for their potential victory.

lukep since u quit US why do u care so much if it goes down? :)

anyways yeah the main thing US had was OIL beein traded with USD as currency. im not sure if they will change this pact just with 1 BRICS but id prefer if none country felt like its police of the world.

BRIC did not get together in a room and say, let's debase the US dollar.

Yes the US dollar is getting debased as a result of the alliance, but their goal here is to lock down future resources like oil.

Mainly China's expanding economy needs oil. China is the center of this.

USA & China economies are tied together. If USA gets hyper inflation, you bet China will be screwed as well.

Things will work-out the chinks are cool. They just wanna make iPhones and be happy to like us.

So let's all hold hands and sing a song.

The USD is devaluing because the Federal Reserve is monetizing government debt. Other countries are reacting to that.

All this going on and yet the S&P posts highest first quarter gains since 1998. If this is really going down with BRICS, why isn't Wall Street freaking the hell out like they do about everything else. Shit, if we move warships 1km closer to Iran the price of oil goes even higher. I find it hard to believe that the situation is so serious, yet the financial world either doesn't know or doesn't seem to care that it's happening.
