A niche product...with no product. WTF?

What are your thoughts on this..I stumbled on a search term related to iphones that get's approx 600 daily Google searches and the exact match keyword domain is available.

Problem is, it's not something that is actually available for the iphone, but people search like crazy for a solution or a way to make the iphone do this particular thing.

The domain is www.xxxxxzzzforiphone.com so it's kind of a goofy ass, super long tail domain.

The competition is shit. 10,000 competing pages and the top spot has 15 backlinks. Second is an About.com page, with even less backlinks.

I could probably get this thing to the first page in a couple weeks, but I can't actually offer the people a solution for what they're looking for, because it doesn't exist. (no I can't create a solution to this iphone problem)

I guess I could monetize it with related iphone products & accessories, or just adsense it. Any thoughts on a good way to go with this?
 


I would just adsense it. Better yet throw up some affiliate links to some related products (I know those unlocking guides sell like crazy) so maybe when they stumble on your site, be like "I know you were looking for this, but look what I found that is better" I don't know if that would work because I don't know what exactly the problem is somehow, but $10 on a domain could easily be recouped with selling just 2 of those unlocking guides. I am sure there are other things to sell as well.

Is it feasible to create an iphone app to solve said problem?

If so, you can build the app (I know a guy who can quote you a price with his Dev team in China), then sell it there and on the Apple iTunes store too.
 
Unfortunately it's not a software thing...it's a hardware item that the iphone is not compatible with. Now, maybe the iphone 5 will have this feature, and then I'll be able to really kill it one day.
 
15 backlinks? Shit, $10 for a domain.. $20 for a decent directory submit/blast, and you'll be number one.. Just sit on that site as an investment.. Offer related products for sure, adsense, and you'll make your money back
 
Adsense could work, or you need to think of another angle to approach the customer with. Most of my money sites are in niches no one else will touch because products for the niche don't exist or people think the demographic just isn't in a buying mode. You gotta get into the head of the mark and deliver them what they want; if all you have to deliver is something they don't necessarily want, then you gotta pitch it to them just the right way and make them change their mind. That's just my take on things, good luck.
 
Good snag! There are adwords ads running for that keyword which is at least somewhat promising.

I'm sure you can make a little off of it via adsense. Why not run some affiliate links for iPhone accessories too?

Or you could aim higher and solve the problem ;) It could be done with
enough capital and the right contacts IMO.
 
Well, I bought the domain on Thursday,threw up 4-5 original articles on the topic, and it's currently on the first page for it's. Ordinarily, I'd say it wouldn't last, but seeing as the comp is super weak, who knows.

Get this, I've been building some links over the past couple days, but none are indexed yet, and Webmaster tools shows that no pages from my site are even indexed, yet it's on the first page. Go figure. Can't wait to see what happens when a few BL's kick in.

I'm not getting any traffic to speak of, but I'm on the bottom of the first page, so that's expected.
 
Just my $0.02, but could you maybe position yourself as an advocate for this hardware change? Get people to give you their email address and say something like 'Join the petition to make this happen!' Then keep them up to date with a newsletter every month or so with some offers in it - I'm no expert in the mailing department, but it seems like a good way to try to get more profit out of your visitors.

Sort of related, but why aren't there more grassroots campaigns to fix these types of things? It would be pretty awesome if your site got enough attention to actually make this happen.
 
Go the lazy short term route, iframe an email submit offer to look like they are submitting their email for information on how to fix the problem, bank a few hundy, then flip it to some chump on flippa or dp. Churn and burn baby :D
