Did the TI-85 really have this problem?
 
Everyone was taught PEMDAS, but you don't remember that you read right to left, multiplication and division are together, so you do right to left.
 
This is the answer:

The layout of the question is wrong hence the multiple answers that can be put forward.

48÷2 x (9+3)

48÷2 x (12)

24 x (12)

=288


OR it can be interpreted as:

48
______
2(9+3)



48
______
(18+6)



48
______
24


= 2


However it is laid out as in the first question hence the answer is 288.
