Honestly, wtf are these politicians smoking?

It's a month old, but just heard about this today and for some reason it's still being considered by congress. Shit's fucked up:
U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk will call for legislation Monday that would toughen drug-trafficking laws regarding a highly potent form of marijuana, with penalties of up to 25 years in prison for a first-time offense.

The law would target offenders who sell or distribute marijuana that has a THC content exceeding 15 percent, which is between 5 and 10 percentage points higher than average marijuana, according to Kirk’s office.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main active ingredient in marijuana.

Drug dealers are increasingly cross-breeding plants to produce high-potency variants of marijuana, which are called “kush” in street slang when they have 20 percent THC, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curransaid.

Police have been turning up more of the high-potency marijuana in Lake County arrests, he said.

“When you amplify the strength of it, you are increasing the harm to the system,” said Curran, who supports the legislation, which would amend a federal law. “They are more dangerous behind the wheel of a vehicle. It’s not a good idea to have people that messed up.”

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has reported that kush sells for as high as $600 per ounce, creating the same profit potential as crack cocaine, Kirk said.

The Republican North Shore lawmaker said he plans to release more information during a news conference in Chicago on Monday, where he will be joined by representatives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and Waukegan Police Department.

“When you amplify the strength of it, you are increasing the harm to the system,”

So why don't they ban everclear or any alcohol? Alcohol is much more dangerous than any strain of the Mary Jane.

There's a fine example that the government and reporters don't know what the fuck they are talking about. "kush" isn't any form of slang that I've ever heard. It's usually only called Kush if it's an Indica hybrid of Hindu Kush, like Afghan Kush, Master Kush, etc.

I'm pretty in touch with Marijuana culture in so-cal and I can tell you "kush" has very much become slang for "good weed"; must people simply don't know what real kush is and think the "bubble gum kush" that is a dominate sativa they just bought is a kush. People will almost always be willing to pay more if kush is attached to the name, indica or sativa. So naturally dealers and clinics(the so-cal grey area legal weed stores, it's not as 100% legal as everyone seems to think) attach the word "kush" to anything they sell that is above average. People just aren't likely to pay top dollar if the word kush isn't in the random BS name you have chosen.

This is how it is in so-cal, culture can be very different else where. For example in nor-cal I've heard weed has to have some purple in it to be considered great marijuana.

All things aside that's fucking retarded. If they want to change anything it should be they base punishments on the quantity of THC possessed that way the police couldn't fuck growers over anymore by weighing the entire plant and claiming that's the how much weed the guy possessed. This of course would be another huge fucking waste of money to be testing the THC quantity of weed the police take(steal).

The wasted money for testing is absolutely minuscule compared to the tax dollars it takes to support someone in prison for 25 years.

Not to mention ruining someones life and possibly turning them into a REAL criminal by the time they get out.

I can't believe the people making these laws are so fucking stupid.

Mannn... that just blew my fucking high!

Prisons are for profit businesses paid for by tax dollars with billions in profits. This system is so twisted it makes me fucking sick.

Some places do ban sales of alcohol with such a high proof. I think the more issue is that they can't test how stoned you are, but they can test how drunk you are.

As much as conservatives always talk about keeping government out of people's lives, it seems like it's always the Republicans stoking up the war on drugs.

they're also the ones putting the whole lives in the hands of a god they kneel down to every Sunday and listen to to direct the nation.

What Americans don't seem to ever get is that our country was founded by religious wackos who were too extreme so they left their country in search of another.

Seriously- digest that for a minute. How is any of this surprising?

Just you wait, America.

First it's the ban on auto assault rifles, then rifles, then shotguns, then hand guns.

They'll let you keep the pocket knives. Maybe.

In that sequence.
