2 Months after buying my Droid....

Android 2.1 Coming to All U.S. Android Phones? [RUMOR]

i know it says "rumor" right in the link, but i bet we see 2.1 on g1 by summer, even if it's cyanogen that brings it.

T-Mobile already announced releasing 2.1 sometimes next month, but only to the MyTouch 3G series. So like I said rooted, and you can already get 2.0 and 2.1 on the G1 as of several months ago. Mostly via the OpenEclair and other rom variants.

I haven't done the jailbreaking shit cause I don't want to end up with a disabled phone. Fact is I shouldn't have to "jailbreak" something I own. I seriously hate AT&T and Apple and the two of them combined equal a serious bad experience.
Jailbreaking your iphone is fairly harmless, I've done it 4 or 5 times so far and no issues. I use bluetooth alot in the car and Jailbreaking is the only way to switch on/off bluetooth in one click.

Though should point out when he mentioned AT&T and Apple combo, Jailbreaking doesn't unlock the phone. Simply allows you to do some stuff on the phone that you would normally be restricted from doing as well as installing non-app store stuff (makes it more of an 'open' platform). If you wanted to unlock the iphone, that is to say take it to T-Mobile for example you could use the same tool you used for jailbreaking but if you've updated your phone's software to the latest there may be a chance you can't do that anymore. Most of those details are on blog.iphone-dev.org.

By comparison rooting the android is far more risky, like a heck of a lot more if you can't read instructions and just start flashing whatever you come a cross (in which case should stick with cyanogenmod when it becomes available for the device and follow instructions religiously).

buying any phone running android os will make you wish you waited a few more months to get the new one...with all these companies making android phones every month or two there will be a new phone that is much better...the soon to be released htc desire is slightly better than the nexus one, and that's only been our for two months...

Amateurs... I'm still rockin' my G1.

G14LIFE!

After the desk thread I thought for sure you'de have busted out with something like this:

Could you tell me why you regret it because I was thinking of getting the droid myself.

ive had my droid for a month and have no regrets.

I can't say I have any regrets per se, I love the Andoid OS. It totally freaking rocks. And this is coming from someone who supports Blackberry users AND Blackberry Enterprise Server so I know they're good but Android blows the doors off of Blackberry.

The only issue I have is the possibility that my Droid may have a faulty mic since I've been receiving feedback from others who say I sometimes sound like I'm calling from a tunnel.

The Android forums have confirmed that some are having issues with the phone sounding weird to the other party if you lay down or lean back in a chair to chat with them. I'm guessing I was one of the unlucky ones who got a shitty mic. I already changed the voice codec (per Android developer forums) and that seemed to help a little bit but I think I'll just get a bluetooth and hopefully that will usurp the mic issue.

The assholes at Verizon refuse to replace it because "we're not experiencing that problem ourselves".

It's only mildly annoying when it happens and I'm starting to suspect it gets worse depending on your/their signal strength.

I don't really see myself venturing away from Android any time soon but Symbian^4 is supposed to be open source and kickass so you never know.

I don't use my phone much, but it would be nice to have the option to look something up real quick online or text someone if I need to.

I'm in the market for new phones for me and the wife, and the Android phones look great, but it seems like they all have expensive, mandatory data plans on top of the regular phone plan, and we just don't use the phone enough to warrant spending $80 for each phone per month for the minutes we use just to use the GPS and text a few times a month.

Most carriers now have mandatory data plans if you get a "smartphone" (ie: not just android). Most of them also seem to have mandatory voice plans if you buy them under contract so its not like you could just pay only for the data plan and use VoIP on top of it.

I'm trying to decide between the droid and iphone now. I can't seem to give up real buttons on the crackberry for clunky touchscreen buttons.
