I would go rockymountians.com in a second, but have a similar question since I am in a similar dilemma.

I am launching a site focusing on two sub-nitches of a bigger niche market. As an example lets say my site is going to be on sailboats and yachts. So I bought sailboatyacht.net and sailboat-yacht.net (.coms all taken)

Now the way the site will be set up there will be two seperate catagories one for sailboats and one for yachts, but the two keywords hardly ever appear together in my site, but do get searched together, a decent amount of times.

Would using a hyphenated domain in this example work??

I don't know if you already bought sailboatyacht.net before you postet this but if not, your a retard.

Reading comprehension fail. He said "So I bought...". Past tense. That would mean the purchase was already made, and in fact it was made in February.

You, like the other idiot above, need to learn how to use your, and you're, before you go around calling people retards. Should have though about that before you "postet" it.

@OP: If you have the choice of both, get both, market the one without the hyphen primarily. And far as being picky due to cost... if you're not expecting to earn back at least the registration fee of both domains, why bother with them in the first place?

You wouldn't believe the variety of people online, in just bout every message board, that cannot properly use "your", "you're", "their", "there", "they're", etc.

I'm registering a new domain on which I'll try to rank for multiple terms with dedicated content pages.

I'll try to rank with the home page for a term composed by 2 keywords, let's say rocky mountains

do you think it's better rockymountains.com or rocky-mountains.com ?

both .coms are available

I prefer domains without hyphen because it is easier tell to someone.Your users will also remember it easily.

Yeah, agree with waqyum.I think a good domain must be easy to remember ,easy to type ,but not easy to made a mistake .Not hyphen is good.

if your promoting off line then no dash as it sounds awkward but if your online for seo purposes I dont really think it matters but if the no dash version is available go for the one without the dash!

Buy both. Even though someone above said capitalization doesn't matter, it makes a difference when you market it. rockymountains.com vs RockyMountains.com - Same domain but when you put the name out there, the second will have more impact

To the OP, if/where possible, don't forget to buy both the singular and plural version of the (word) domain

ex. RockyMountain.tld AND RockyMountains.tld

Years ago, I regged the plural version of a competitors name and redirected to mine -- only took a week for the guy to find out, and boy was he pissed. You snooze you lose.

And as others have said - if you're really confident with making it succeed (and/or plan to brand it). Take a couple hundred and reg all versions on at least the 3 major tld's and forward them to the main .com

cheers

european-pharmacy.com has their own web site and people buy them products.
In the meanwhile i agree that the best choice is rockymountains.com, no doubt.

My dash should be an exclamation point. I live a life most people dream of or read of in magazines. I am a sailor by trade, I fly small aircraft and I live in a old whorehouse in the Ozark mountains. Educated at MIT and the school of life. Very early on I saw my elders sick and bored and trapped by a life they created; I made the decision to go the road less traveled. It truly has been GREAT!
