2 Dudes 1 Van

Several years ago two guys in a car pulled up while I was walking to lunch from work and wanted to know if I was interested in buying any leather jackets. Their story was something about being being from Italy and leaving tomorrow and had an excess of stock they needed to get rid of before leaving (they did have Italian accents).

I went along and they showed me three nice jackets. They were totally open on the price, so picked up a really nice one for $80 (worth a few hundred). Told them to wait here as I knew some people at work who might be interested, so walked back to work and one of my co-workers was interested. He picked up one of the other jackets - even went to the ATM to get money while they were waiting nearby.

At the time I was pretty naive about the whole thing and wasn't too suspicious, but it probably wasn't on the up and up. Either way, I still have that jacket.

Two Italian guys were caught running that scam around here last month .....

Two guys tried to sell me some crack out of a parked car midday in Seattle when I was 16. True story

Wow, wtf? Maybe it's that I'm an inner city kid, but5 this shit happens to me all the time. I'd say I get solicited marijuana at least once every two days by some black guy I never met. Besides weed, I get solicited harder drugs at least once every two weeks.

But best way to get annoying black weed dealers away from you, when they say some shit like "Sawbuck dro", I just reply with "Naw. But you want some meth?" So far it's worked 100% of the time - they just get confused and walk away. But if you do this and don't have the meth, then you're in for a beatdown.

That is some funny shit. This happened to me a few weeks ago in a bank parking lot and I was like "what the fuck is the scam here?" Said no and left the bank...

But to think that it's an organized racket, well, I guess my life ain't so bad...

Very interesting. I'm pretty sure mine is real leather - at least that's the general consensus of everyone looking at my jacket (and the one the coworker bought). Mine wasn't wrapped in plastic either. Probably stolen though.

If I hear these guys were scamming in Florida several years back then I'll start getting worried...

well, i know a friend who bought a PS3 a year back for dirt cheap for $225 when the actual going rate was $549.
I still know him today and he says it works real good. No problems so far. At first he thought it was a scam but then it at least worked out for him

Yea thats a classic. "Yo i just came up on some speakers, check it!"

The speakers are really worth like 40-50 bucks maybe less, with the enclosure. They tried to sell me for 200. I bought them for 75 bucks. They do pump tho. I bought one for my dorm room back in the day. They're decent speakers.

First time i ran into this was back in the early 90's. Its been going on a while. You usually find these guys by the colleges and banks. I knew a guy that used to do it. He was doing 500-1000 a week. Its decent pocket change and its a good way to learn a little about sales.

I still run into those guys. I just give em the nod and say good luck out there. I still believe its a free market, you can sell anything you want for any price. However buyer beware.

I bet you can do this with netbooks. Just a thought. :338:

This speakers off the back of a truck story is something i read in a marketing book recently. (can't remember if it was by seth godin or robert cialdini)

It's a marketing trick, they are selling the story and excitement of possibly purchasing stolen goods.

It must work if its fucking everywhere, my dad fell for it when he came home with a set of speakers about 10 years ago.
