18 cases of firearms being used for self defense this week

Average of 6307 non fatal gunshot injuries and 2539 fatalities resulting from gunshots (including suicides) per week in the country.

Seems weird to quote small numbers of good people protecting themselves against bad guys when it is so small compared to the huge overall effect of having a lot of guns around.

Exactly my point. I bet the number of people who accidentally shoot themselves per week is much higher than the successul self defense with guns instances presented in these stats.

There's nothing remarkable about the data, it just proves that some people did some things.

I don't even know what you anti-gun guys are even arguing for anymore? Do you guys want a ban on semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15? More people are killed every year with hammers and other blunt instruments than with all rifles combined. What exactly are you guys proposing? Do you want to ban handguns and shotguns too? Do you want the government to go door to door and confiscate all firearms?

I'm lost, someone help explain their logic please.

2539 fatalities per week? Where are you getting your numbers? That's way off.

It's about 500 firearm related deaths a YEAR from accidental discharge.

What IS statistically significant is that the ratio of law enforcement related fatal shootings to civilian related justified shootings is currently 2:3 in favor of law enforcement. Looking at trends, within 3 years justified homicide by non lawenforcement will be higher than the law enforcement number.
