TBH I don't think people were doubting the lifestyle, more expressing concern as to why it would appeal to the average young man; leaving all his friends and going off to another country on his own.. Not saying it IS a bad thing either, I can see plenty of reasons why a young man would want to live in Thailand :D
 
Fair enough, on the flip side, its not like you leave your friends and family for good, I still go home and visit once a year.

You'd be surprised how time apart can strengthen relationships :)
