How does facebook serve ads?

Over the past few weeks I've noticed facebook serves some of my ads in high volume, and then doesn't really display them the next few days afterwords.

I find myself constantly making new ads even though the previous ads I put up had good CTR's.

Anyone experience something similar or have any good links to information about their ad network? I tried searching google and I couldn't find anything.

The same happens to me all the time. There's this thing called fb ad manager that claims it can make a thousand ads in 5 mins, haven't tried it myself, but probably worth having a look at. It breaks every time facebook updates the ad platform.

I work with Fb ads manager. Fb ads manager is good, but it definitely can not make 1,000 ads in 5 mins. I wrote some software myself that use to be able to make about 100 in 30 minutes.

What I'm interested in is how to optimally set bids and make ads. I've tested some stuff out on my own, but I can't figure out why there is such a significant decline in impressions when the ads are doing well.

@adigitalorange - Good Resource.

Sure thing, are you doing CPC or CPM?

Vegas: My experience with Facebook ads is that it's basically a CTR game. I've had this same issue with my ads anytime the CTR drops below 0.5%
I assume the logic is that if people actually cared about the ads, they'd be clicking them.
If your ad isn't doing decently with CTR, they stop bothering to show it, simple as that.
Just recreate the ad with a different pic.

Ads manager can make 1000 ads in 5 mins no problem if you no how to use it, your FB account won't last long though if you do that.

There are 2 possible and very simple answers to your question.

1. You don't know what a "good" ctr is and you are at first getting some free impressions to test your ctr and when FB finds out it sucks it stops the impressions. If you keep making new ads to get those free impressions FB will stop giving them to you.(see retards in FB thread wondering why they can't get clicks with high CPC bids after abusing the system duping ads)

2. People are X'ing your ad. I'm not going to go into more details then that public. If you are spending less then $200 a day this isn't your problem though.

^^ If you are spending less than $200 / day then what is the problem?

I'm having issues with this also even after i upped my bid. What is a slightly above average ctr for fb ads? I ran some where i was getting ~0.23% but terrible conversion rate, and now i am running another offer where i'm getting a slightly better conversion rate but horrendous ctr..as in ~0.05% ..it is a dating offer and i'm assuming the poor ctr is because i am not targeting enough? I just have no effin clue what kind of keywords to use with dating...

lol
1000 ads in 5 minutes = 200 ads per minute = 3.33 ads per second.
Do you even fucking think before posting bullshit replies?

there's another possible reason. Facebook will limit impressions if your ad is similar to other ads. ie a dating ad with generic copy "Meet LocaL Single Women" etc would get throttled, because its similar to other ads running, and other that already ran - ad "types" now build a history which influence your af performance.

Shit, that just clicked for me when I read that.
I generally go for things that I'm pretty sure aren't getting much promotion, usually physical sale items, but the logic behind "Hey, that ad's already on the network" never even struck me until you said it.

*sigh* Such a fucking moron sometimes...
