Unless the offer is $2, Paying $.20/click will basically break you even.

He wouldn't break at .20, that's a 20% convo rate on a $1.00 poll, and that just isn't consistently sustainable unless you have some very, very targeted traffic. ZIP maybe, email no.

First of all, almost every network out there has submits at $1.25-$1.50. Even higher.
Second of all, submits typically have a 25%-40% conversion rate. Fuck, I had a 45% conversion rate when I used to run them.
And as a "network" owner/Account manager, do you think it's wise to advise someone starting out to pay .15-.20 and expect a 25-45% conv rate? I want you to bookmark this thread, and come 12/6/2009, come back to it. I hope you'll see a parallel with your logic and your then failed affiliate 'network'.
No, I think it's wise for a person to put .15-.20 as their max bid, and then work on their quality score and CTR till they can knock down a .10 bid. Before that, at the very worst they will break even, and at a usual, they will profit decently. Heck, since your mentioning my network, I'll put in a word also. In my network, ALL our submits are $1.50; every single one. So if the affiliate is maxing at 20 cents a click, a 20% conversion rate would still be profit at that bid!
I make most of my money from PPC... and for the email/zip submit. my rule of thumb is not to pay more than $0.20.
