if you had it to do all over again, and were just dipping into affiliate marketing for the first time - but knowing what you know now about the industry, when would you use your real ID & info and when would you create an alt identity for a sign up ... such as a marketing account on fb, ms, google or yahoo; or an affiliate marketing agreement, web host billing for landing pages etc, PP or other account to have your payouts sent to, etc?

not planning any nefarious activities or rip offs, just protective of my personal info (especially SSN) with no latent ambitions for fame, only fortune.

also, ya never know when something you do might piss off a few thousand people & ya need to keep a low profile for a while.

I'd rather take the risk of pissing off people and having them know where I live than not claim taxes and have the IRS find out.

But by all means do tell :)

well, yes & no. it doesn't prevent someone from suing you, but it DOES create a very traceable paper trail (even when DBA XYZ Co., from the required registrations & published notices, etc) ... for nuts and or their misguided relatives to pursue you with greedy attorneys &/or baseball bats. even to having to hire representation in far flung jurisdictions. granted, properly done one will prevail in the end, but the potential misery and scrutiny of forensic accountants is a nightmare one would choose to avoid when possible when that Crush offer turns into a suicide or an angry unemployed father with teamster connections.

also, LLC is a big PITA in my state (CA), but yes, that is the proper route for legal cover.

before i address other replies (and thanks all for taking the time) my question still stands, tips will be appreciated regarding the actual "flexability" of potential affiliate marketing partners on their apps, advertising partners (google, yahoo, facebook, etc) and other required sign ups in the AM biz to overlooking or not demanding certifiable identity. :question4:

what i like about affiliate marketing is that it seems to still be in the remains of its "wild west" period, even if its now a more mature stage, and lets face it - some of these offers or potentially any offer when dealing with a overmedicated unstable litigious public makes one prone to "an incident", even if its only the revenge of a random pimple faced haXor wanna-be who has gained access to your account info.

so, despite my being an overall pussy (yes i said it), i do want a taste of the yummy AM $$$, but hope to minimize my profile. my guess is many of you are already employing some ID stealth when its possible or necessary.

BTW did you know Gyped is a racist term? Yeah. I said it all the time and my husband said "Did you know you're saying a racist term?" I was like, Wha? He said yeah, it's like when I used to say "You're totally getting jewed" as a kid cause that's what everyone in East texas says. I was like, How the fuck did you not know that "jewed" was a racist slur? He said the same way that you didn't know that "gyped" is a slur.

Moral of the story: I now say "I was robbed" but it's not the same. :( I feel gyped.

Theres loads here (the UK). I think the "politically correct" term is travellers.

There's also a shitload of them in Greece, apparently.
From what I read, they had major issues clearing them out of the areas they were squatting in because that was going to be an Olympic site. Set up armed enclaves according to some reports.

True. I am not racist, but there is nothing romantic about Gypsies. They are generally quite filthy, and cause troubles. And yes, there was major mobilization during the 2004 olympics to remove them. They tend to stick together, and you cannot simply send 5 cops to send them away.

EDIT: This thread really disappointed me, I thought we were gonna have the first WF "coming out"... Oh well.

ok, for all you wandering whiners, maybe it is time to get this off my chest and admit what people who know me have long suspected.

i wrote this letter a few years ago to my family so they would understand why i wasnt married with children like everyone else. i will link here for a few days, so interested new friends on this board will understand the sensitive nature of my personal orientation.

i trust you will all respect that this is very private and serious.
