Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, etc... what do you use and why?

I'm about to start a gallery... I never really take pictures but I have a camera and I'd like to... so I'd rather pick the right place from the getgo rather than go through a hassle later.

Opinions appreciated.

My server. This script works well enough:

Gallery | Your photos on your website

Hey, it even has a desktop app. Flickr doesn't have any advantages over this. Plus, there's no vague TOS leaving one wondering what exactly they claim they're legally allowed to do with the pictures I upload (since the "they" is me... I've always wanted to be one of them :D ).

Agreed.

I also burn all of my dslr photos off to two DVDs. One I keep at home, one I keep off-site. Be prepared for burglary, fire, etc.

Thanks for all the input so far. Anyone want to venture out and suggest positives/negatives of the main ones mentioned?

Also, for those keeping everything on an External-HD/Thumb, which I'll inevitably do, what have you found the best way to organize the hierarchy? I understand it depends how many pics but do you do Year > Month > Event/Subject folder?

I just hate re-organizing a shit load of stuff so want to set it all up right to begin with...

What would be nice is a portable version of Picasa or something like it. I hate having to choose between date based and tag/subject based archival. Sometimes I want to look up a specific event, sometimes I want all the pictures of my kids, etc.

Anyone know of something like that?

i usually put all my pictures in the pictures folder, but i name them date first then whatever they are pictures of...Ex. "8-24-08 Wake boarding" then at the end of the year i dump them into a 2008 folder, then start again the next year.

I keep all the pictures worth saving in a folder on my desktop named 'PORN'
