Facebook Social Ads

I launched my first dating campaing on Facebook yet, and had an orange exclamation mark next to my advertisement when I checked the status today morning. It turns out they wanted higher bids; I had set my maximum bid to $0.25 and they wanted a bit over $0.40 per click.

I complied, and raise my bid to what they wanted. However, although the exclamation mark is now gone and the campaign appears to be 'running' - I haven't received any impressions so far. My advertisement is targetted to nearly 2 million single men, so lack of viewers shouldn't be an issue. Also, my daily budget is currently set to $40 per day, which I think is reasonable for someone inexperienced like me.

Anyone know what's going on here? Should I start a new campaign - with the same advertisement - but a higher bid?

It just depends on your CTR. Once it gets to a certain low point, all the king's horses and all the king's men can't get you any more impressions, and yes you're better off resubmitting a new ad. Problem is, getting dating ads approved is a crap shoot, so it sucks when you have to turn your back on one that already got approved. Just keep trying. Eventually you'll get a reasonable person (and not a bitter lesbian) reviewing your ad and you'll be cool.

It's a given that I wouldn't have a CTR to boast; I never had the chance to receive any impressions! :crap: So I suppose if your initial bid isn't high enough - your campaign simply goes down the drain, even if you raise the CPC later. Am I completely off base here, or is that how the system works?

I thought 25 cents was a reasonable initial bid for a dating campaign; anything in the 40 cents' range as they want would render my campaign unprofitable. Perhaps I should just delete the current campaign and start another one with the exact same advertisement? I'm using my girlfriend's pictures (she doesn't seem to mind), so I can maybe throw some new pictures but keep the original text that was approved.

Sometimes you have to put up a fairly high bid to get the impressions rolling. After even a couple clicks you will be able to start bringing it down.. that is if you end up with a good CTR.

I've had to bid as high as 0.55 to see a single impression.

Ah, I understand. :) Would changing the bid to a higher amount on my already approved campaign get things rolling? If not, would submitting the same advertisement get me in trouble?

Absolutely! Raising your bid will get you some impressions, and hopefully some clicks to establish a decent CTR. If your click through ratio is not very good (under .10-ish), or if you have 3000-5000 impressions and no clicks, you will probably want to go back to the drawing board and work up a new ad that will perform better.

Okay, I jacked up the CPC and am receiving more clicks (according to Facebook) than is being reported (by NeverBlueAds). With that in mind, NeverBlueAds is currently showing 15 clicks, whereas Facebook claims to have sent 51 clicks. Should I be concerned, or does NeverBlueAds simply take time to update their statistics? I just hope that it's not one person repeatedly clicking on the advertisement. :crap:

Based on the current figures, though, I'm in the red by only $3.62. I will leave a note on how I did on my first day of affiliate marketing tonight. :)

Nevermind, it's probably the traffic bouncing off my landing page.
If so, only one out of ten visitors to my landing page are converting.

Okay, since the impressions have died down (literally), here are the figures so far with my first day of affiliate marketing:

Spent: $27.14 (56 clicks; 0.07% CTR)
Earned: $21.25 (5 conversions; 16 clicks)
Net Loss: $5.89 :(

Judging by the above figures, only 16 out of the 56 visitors went past the landing page to the affiliate's website. From those, only 5 converted. Should I get rid of the landing page and try direct linking, or concentrate on reducing my CPC but keep the landing page? With the current figures, I can afford a CPC of 38 cents just to break-even; which is definitely not happening.

Tell me marketing gurus, what should I do?

Sorry, I misunderstood earlier and didn't realize you were talking about a brand new campaign. In that case, yeah I usually start out wit a relatively higher bid and bring it down after I deem the campaign worthy of pursuing based on the CTR and the conversion ratio.

As far as getting more conversions, for me it's not so much about the landing page, but more so about the targeting. For dating I usually direct link and don't bother with LPs anyway. Be creative with keywords in the "interests" section of the people you're targeting. Think about the sort of people that would go for the particular offer you're promoting and what they would likely have in their interests. Not sure about everyone else but this method has worked very well for me.

kingofsp: I was leaning towards that route initially until I saw the reach being cut from a few million to thousands. I'm thinking of throwing out the landing page and trying direct linking tomorrow; although, I'm certain that most of my ads will be disapproved without a landing page. Even so, roughly 70% of the visitors are bouncing off my landing page, which is cutting my profits significantly. I will keep everyone updated on my journey, and any input would be appreciated!

You're overanalyzing dating ads on Facebook.

-find ads with cleavage and get them approved
-bid like 75% of the lower suggested bid in the beginning. If it asks ($.9-$1.25) then bid $.68 cents
-redirect at first, don't use landing pages
-splittest headlines/graphics while lowering the bids. After a few hours I lower the bid until it's the lowest it can be before it turns orange.
-get the EPC of your offer higher than the average cpc you're getting on facebook
-profit

You need a decent offer. I think eHarmony's more solid than a lot of the other stuff. It's mainly about getting that CTR higher.

Since you only lost $5 then ask your AM for a paybump and tell him you can send more traffic once you start profiting.

I'm not sure how profitable dating ads are these days for newcomers because it's VERY difficult to get GOOD ads past the mods these days.

Tits and tits sauce! That's all that is needed to make bank with dating ads on facebook!

I appreciate the input, but have managed to make a $31.06 profit by tweaking the advertisements. I guess all those readings before starting helped; a minor loss yesterday, and a reasonable profit for today! :) So far I have submitted three advertisements, and all of them were surprisingly approved. One of them (from yesterday) was simply not profitable, another was an error, and the third has brought me the aforesaid profit.

The campaign for today got started six or so hours ago, but the impressions seem to have died completely. Does anyone know how I can go about increasing the amount of impressions I'm receiving? Do they usually halt sending traffic a few hours into the campaign?
