+rep, finally got time to read through the whole thread, and glad I did. I've never been very happy with the adwords site placement system, so maybe this will change that and get me started on the content network.

Are there other sites similar to quantcast that might also be able to give us in depth stats, and possibly more site ideas to advertise on?

Excellent post, haven't seen a valuable unique post related to PPC in some time. It's all the same stuff repeated over and over.

I've always had problems determining demographics and probably the reason I never succeeded with facebook and struggle with PPC. Quantcast seems to be a gold-mine with all the data.

Like this:

"visits potatomonkies.com site:qantcast.com"

So what this does is search for the phrase "visit/visits potatomonkies.com" and limits the results to quantcast.com

So all the quantcast pages that mention the visitors going to potatomonkies.com should come up in the results. Hope that helps.

You're right, I was wrong. I learned something tonight, but I am not sure if I believe it (at least not that it has the impact that QS has on search ads). I have been running on average $250/day through Adwords placements on a *CPM* model for over a year. I've always built my placement targeted ads believing if my CPM exceeds that of the other ads being displayed via the content network, mine will show - and it'll usually show in the "expanded box" where my ad fills the whole adsense block (having your ad expanded is CRUCIAL otherwise I have a skyhigh CPM $ and a fraction of the clicks). Many of my placements are also direct linked to the offers which wouldn't fly with a typical search ad. Not worrying about QS and worrying about CPM $$ has always served me well with placement targetting. Different game if you are doing CPC placements I guess. Just never had much luck getting getting my CPC placements to actually start showing up, and I've never had one put in an expanded text box.

For me it's the CPM ads that won't show up for me.

I think the sites i had selected where perhaps receiving to much traffic and my bid in the end too low.

Not seeing your CPM ads showing, contextual or image is pretty frustrating, i just went with regular search results and got some traffic from it. But nothing to get excited about.

Open question: What are peoples bid averages on CPM basis to get your ad to show?

Forgot to ad, what waiting times on average do you see before your site placement ads start showing up?

Thanks!

I must be doing something wrong. I did something very similar to this. And I am getting zero impressions and obviously zero CTR.

What I have done is started a new campaign.

under that campaign I have two ad groups.
One ad group is for the site suggested by google only and handpicked ones I entered. 64 sites and several ads. Thousands of impressions. 1 hit.

The other is for QC suggested groups. 13 sites in here. 1 ad. I'll be adding more ads today.

That 2nd one is getting nothing. Might be better after more ads.

Setting a bigger budget might help, I don't know this from experience but Ruck from Cash Tactics dot com uses the content network a lot (not in a placement targeting fashion but still... ). Something to try if you're not getting any impressions, because Ruck reported the same problem when setting his budget too low.

thx for the ideas, but where on quantcast.com does it show what sites are sending them traffic? I just see "Brand and Site Affinities" and "Similar Audience".

That would indeed be the only reason i can think of why i don't get any impressions nor clicks.
