They lost the best QB in NFL history and went on to win 11 games with a backup. Brady won many of his SB's with scrubs for receivers. Their secondary has always been a heap of rotating parts and third-tier pieces.

But their system is structured so that the damage of losing any one piece is always minimized. Not a single person who truly watches the Patriots is worried. This is one of the most resilient and flexible teams in the league. Personally, I think Tebow could make a fantastic TE if he's willing to play that position.

I am a Patriots fanatic but come on man I have take issue with a few of these things.

The Gronkowski thing is a bit concerning. I would hardly call him "perennially" injured, he missed a season in college but played every game the first two years he was here. It was just last season when he missed games for a broken wrist. Now he is having back surgery that is going to cause him to probably miss a few games at the start of the season.

Tebow will not see the field except on special teams. Mayyybe he plays one or two plays a game in some kind of Hback roll but come on, 10 TD's? Belichick is not taking the football out of Tom Brady's hands. If he gets one touchdown all season I would be surprised. I would say he is 50/50 to even make the team.

As a Patriots fan I am concerned. I think they still win the division but it's going to be a dogfight against Denver and potentially SF in the Superbowl. They are a tight end based offense and now both their TE's are having problems. After Amendola there is NOBODY at WR. The defense has to pick it up this year big time.

SF in the Bowl?? Not this year...not without Crabtree. They simply won't have enough firepower on offense to get it done.

Next time I get in a heated Manning vs Brady debate and someone brings up his superbowl rings, I'm just going to link to this post and argue that Brady can be replaced by any QB and the Pats would have similar success. Then I'll counter with Manning's 4 MVPs, and the fact his team went from being a 12-4 team on average to 2-14 the year he had surgery, then call it a day.

If Tebow is willing to block, he could be on the field at the same time as Brady. He could play TE, FB, HB, or even RB. With Hernandez about to be arrested and Gronk injured(again), I'd look for him at the TE position.

I wasn't happy about them letting Welker go. But Amendola's a satisfactory replacement as long as he can avoid getting injured again. Then you have Aaron Dobson, who they drafted in the second round. Then you have Shane Vereen, who is technically a runningback, but is really a perfect hybrid of the two positions.

Aqib Talib is coming back, which is honestly the best news I've heard all year. This team's gonna be just fine.

It's not necessarily that Brady is bad, so much as it is the fact that their system is designed to minimize the damage of losing any one player.

And doesn't Manning always choke in the playoffs? Why is any rational person even making that comparison?

Yeah, still can't believe they lost to Baltimore at home. Then again, I'm still in awe of what Flacco did in the playoffs. He holds the record with Joe Montana for best playoff TD-INT ratio. How he did that with such crappy receivers, I'll never understand.

Crappy receivers? Maybe in some kind of fantasy league, but those guys were awesome in big games. Boldin, Smith. Pitta at TE. These guys and Flacco complemented each other.

Hats off the Ravens, but probably won't make the playoffs this year. (See: What NY Giants do the year after improbable Superbowl runs)
