Jared Marcum Charge: 14-Year-Old Who Wore NRA Shirt To School Faces Year In Jail

In April, Marcum caused a furor at his West Virginia middle school when he showed up in a T-shirt sporting the NRA logo, a picture of a gun and the slogan "Protect your right." Despite being asked several times by school officials to remove the garment, Marcum kept it on, reportedly saying he was not violating the school’s dress code and was exercising his First Amendment rights.

West Virginia Teen Arrested After Wearing NRA T-Shirt to School - ABC News

"Jared respects firearms and has training to use them, and believes in the Second Amendment," White told ABCNews.com. "He believes it's being threatened by current legislation. He wore [the shirt] as an expression of political speech and the need to protect the Second Amendment."

White said that Marcum had been wearing the shirt without causing any problems from homeroom at the beginning of the school day through fifth period, and was confronted by one of the school's teachers while getting his lunch. When Jared refused to remove or reverse the shirt, the teacher began to raise his voice, and it caught the attention of students eating their lunch, White said.

Marcum was eventually arrested and taken away by police after refusing to remove the shirt. White said that when police told the teen they were going to arrest him, he stuck his hands out and said, "Fine."

So, he's wearing a shirt that does not violate the school dress code. He's exercising his First Amendment rights.

... and gets arrested for it?!?!

Following Marcum’s arrest, students across Logan county wore similar NRA shirts to show their support for Marcum, reports the AP.

I wonder what happened to all those other students...

What's with all these arrest of law-abiding students lately.

For a 14 year old, he certainly is mature to be confidently standing up for his rights. Props.

Incidentally, scientists have stepped forward in support of Kiera, posting about stuff they blew up in school. lol

An early lesson on the realities of law for that student.

The law, the constitution etc mean absolutely fuckall in the presence of force. It is remedial at best and will only be enforced if those with superior force chose to do so. If they chose to violate it well you're just fuck out of luck.

I find it crazy that his only charge now is "obstructing an officer" when he didn't actually break any rule or law to start this whole thing.

Will be interesting to see how much of the country the NRA can get riled up.

Wearing a T shirt with a gun logo/design/NRA statement is the same thing like carrying a gun to school. You see the t shirts have bullets and now he will pay the ultimate price.
