3 Page Thread and a link to the Website
Thats "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Thats branding! I bookmarked the site and want to look at the case study a few more times.
I' m new to WICKEDFIRE forums, and am gonna be spending some more time here, so i'l be looking forward to seeing what you webmasters and entrepeneurs got.

I am looking at the RSS2Blog site now and I was wondering if this is the best or if there are any others that you would recommend. Anyone know where to get free versions anywhere/trial?

When it comes to blogging, I'd suggest mastering the basics before you go hog wild on using RSS2Blog, Semiologic templates or one of the other automated/SERP optimized solutions out there.

-
You need to at least master the basics of setting up a layout that'll help you monetize whether through adsense, affiliate links, revver/metacafe/magnify, intellitext...something.

-
then figure out how to post some unique content - whether you're scraping, content spinning, outsourcing articles, or writing them yourself.

-
tag your posts appropriately (I'm assuming you have keyword lists for your niche), and ping the XML-RPC services like pingomatic, pingoat.
-
if you got analytics, look through the keywords, traffic sources.
-
refine your process, rotate monetization offers, test, track...

-
if you're doing this manually and generating some income, the automation tools will speed up the entire process.

if you're crap at any of these parts, those tools will only help you spin crappy blogs faster.....and what's the point in that?

How do I track keywords with WP? More specific; how do I dynamically insert keywords into my URLS when WP uses permalinks? Is there a plugin for this? Do I need to modify my htaccess? If so can someone post a template htaccess for doing this?

I was going to PM this but I figured I ask so everyone can benefit. So far I've been making keyword specific pages, but I know that is a waste of time when it can be done dynamically.

TIA

much appreciated

i like awstats.

you can also use G! analytics, mybloglog, the crazyegg heatmaps.
there're also a number of tracking apps that show you the mousemovements on your screen,

so many of these can also double up on landing pages, esp if you're pushing multiple offers, or testing diff versions of the same offer.

if your host doesnt have awstats, you can head to awstats.sourceforge.net.

---
keyword tracking: any decent analytics package will show you the links from the SEs, and the search phrases that they looked up and landed on your site.

MyBlogLog has great tracking. i haven't played with blog catalog, but i'd think they might have something similar.

--
there's a space to insert your custom permalink in your WP 'write post' panel,

the google algo's are getting more human-like in their ranking, so you might want to keep the permalink to 100 words or less and use punctuation to break up. eg 'debt-refinance-broker-2007'
no plugin required.

no httaccess required.

you'd probably want to hack your permalink structure to something like:
/%category%/%post_name%/

or use dean lee's permalink migration plugin as a proxy for mucking with your httaccess.

do note that the WP dev team has been modding the code quite a bit recently, so not all the plugins might work properly.

=
anything else?
:D

RSS2Blog is the next best thing to developing your own plugin/app or custom blog solution.

freebies are: feedwordpress and there's another one...cant recall now.
google for "wordpress plugin auto post"?

Thanks Andrew but I think I might have asked the wrong question..:anon.sml:

I have awstats but I don't check it as much as I should. I'll probably NEVER use G Analytics.

I'm under the impressiopn people are dynamically changing the URLS in WP based on the keyword

Example search: car loan cheap
URL: www.awesomeloans.com/amazing-offer-car-loan

Example search: auto loan deal
URL: www.awesomeloans.com/amazing-offer-auto-loan

Both links go to the exact same page in WP not different pages with same content created with different keyword permalinks. I hope that makes sense. thanks again.

There might be such plugins, but I don't use them...

There's a number of BH scripts that generate those pages, but they're no WP-based as far as I'm aware.

Maybe one of the BH guides can comment...

Great post and I appreciate all the info you've provided here! Question for you...What kind of traffic would you expect to see after several days of this for a blog promoting a fairly small niche?

My approach to blogging, and by extension, business is that it needs to generate income.

so stuff like SERP rankings, PR and traffic are just icing on the cake.
i prefer to use a more valid metric - affiliate income or product sales.

I get sales typically within 24 hours of launching a niche blog.

BUT before you start thinking it's easy street, i have to mention that i do quite a bit of research and have a laser targeted customer profile in mind.

that means if i'm doing a debt offer, i know whether it'll likely be a male/female, middle aged, geo-location, which sites they visit (so i could use a site-targeted approach).

If you're using PPC, realize that most people use PPC for sales conversion only...and a lot of times they're shooting blind.

you could instead use PPC for research, use the site-targeting function, or run multiple ad text and see which gets the higher conversions, from there, you bundle it into your blogging efforts.

i'd say that if you do your homework thoroughly, you should have a 70-80% chance of success with any new blog you launch.

I'd love to get your critiques on what I'm doing if you're willing. Let me know and I could shoot you a PM.

LSI/Siloing your blog.

I got a question over at my blog about LSI (latent semantic indexing) and siloing your blog, which are fancy terms for how tightly a blog should be themed.

I think the more on-target you are with your posts, the more relevant traffic you'd get and have a higher ability to monetize.

-
So that means if you're doing some credit/debt-related blog, I really don't see a point to shooting out posts about britney spears and the VMAs, unless you think the teenager demographic was gonna convert for you.

-
on the other hand, if you've a ringtone/zip/email/freebie type blog, then by all means, go hog wild on the britney blogging

-
if you've got a focus for your blog and you stick to it, all the LSI/silo issues will take care of themselves for the most part.

Wow, awesome post. I'd like to see some more detail on:

1. Generating content for the blog and how important the duplicant content issue is when using something like FeedWordpress, and how to overcome that, and

2. How to go about inserting your affiliate links. Do you just use something like aLinks to insert the affiliate link into certain keywords throughout the blog, or do you use aff banners, etc?

Thanks!

I read through this thread, and switched over a chunk of my domain to wordpress blogs.

I tried to follow the advise given, and I'm looking for some feedback.

I picked a category, found my keywords, I'm grabbing content using the ViScript, and RSS2Blog.
Each blog has a major topic, and 1 affiliate program associated with that blog.

Each blog has been submitted to blog directories, SE's, bookmarking services, and a few comment pages.
They only have from 20-200 backlinks right now, and are only generating a little bit of traffic.

I built these sites a few months ago using cloaking techniques, so some of the traffic is generated from that, but the blogs themselves are generating some traffic now. I have only had the blogs up and tweaked for about 3 weeks.

Let me know how I'm doing, any info is appreciated.

generating content is a little different from the stuff in this thread, which i was planning to have it be more focused on the research, setup and positioning of the blog.

i had some thoughts about content and will post it in a new thread. (or the section most related to content).

-
affiliate links - you can use alinks, or if you want to use one of the other paid or open-source ones, they'd work too...

most individual plugins won't make or break a blog.

-text links/banners -> really depends on the blog, the niche, the offer, the audience. the best way would be to use either a heatmap, or set up click tracking for your banner and text link and test and track.

these days, i don't really care about traffic.

do note that most focus on traffic quantity (eg no. of visitors).
it's a bit silly, misguided, and probably some gurus out there have been preaching the more the better....

I'd rather than 1000 targeted visitors to my sites, rather than 10,000 untargeted ones (try buying visitors from revisitors.com or one of the traffic exchanges and see).

So traffic quality is a more important traffic.

but having said that, i'd suggest you forget about traffic, and instead focus on your conversions and $ value ROI per site.

You're getting paid on sales/leads, not traffic, so i'd say that $$$ in your pocket is the most important metric.

PS: regarding the network you set up, my personal preference is to have one influential and powerful site vs a whole network of small sites (think of having a plentyoffish.com in your hands, rather than 200 dating sites and you'll get what i mean...)
