How do I fix my computer?

My knowledge when it comes to the technical aspects of a computer is limited. Wondering if anyone can help me with my current problem.

So about one month ago I caught some nasty virus on my computer. It was disabling several programs from working on my computer, and often times redirected my Google searches to affiliate offers.

I'm not sure how I got the virus. My PC is completely clean of any downloadable software. Just a few things from highly reputable companies here and there. I ended up downloading Avast to deal with the virus and even though it did a good job in containing it, it was still coming through here and there.

Well a couple days ago I decided to buy Norton Antivirus and give that a go. As soon as I allowed for it to do a full scan, it forces my computer into a restart, and that's it. I've never seen my desktop since then.

Everytime I start my PC up it freezes at this screen that says "Windows is Loading Files....". Nothing ever loads and soon after it restarts.

I am currently using an Alienware PC with Windows 7. I have my Window 7 installation CD, but not sure what I can do to reinstall Windows on my PC. I already have backed up all my files elsewhere, since I do that on a weekly basis.

I just want to know how I can reinstall my Windows while I'm having this error.

Thanks in advance for reading this shit ton of text and providing help.

turn on, pop in your windows 7 dvd, press whatever key loads up the boot menu, follow instructions.

Turn on the computer, pop in your Windows disk, HOLD F8 while it's going through the bios screen. Pick your DVD drive with disk in it. Wipe everything and start over.

1. Download a Ubuntu ISO from here - Desktop | Ubuntu

2. Burn to a disc.

3. Put the disc into the PC that won't boot, and set the "Primary Boot Device" (or something similar) in the BIOS to the CD/DVD drive.

4. The PC will now load into Ubuntu instead of Windows. When it loads up, select the option to try Ubuntu instead of installing it.

5. You can now put a pendrive into the PC, and copy your files across from the HDD that Windows is installed on.

6. Now your files are safe you can put the Windows disc in and reinstall from fresh.

Edit - Looks like you've already got it sorted.

1) Press F8 when it says Loading Windows or some shit like that

2) Choose Safe Mode (Should load your desktop just fine, with limited features)

3) Run System Restore and choose a date prior to the date where shit hit the fan.

4) ???

5) Profit

Norton will usually cause more problems than it fixes BTW. If you want a free AV, get Avast. Paid AV get ESET Nod32

If you ever get another virus or malware, ComboFix FTW

I really really like Nod32 as a firewall and use it myself, but imo, Kaspersky seems to pick up new crypter stubs quicker. (Although Hitman Pro kicks both their asses, but that's just an occasional thing, since it doesn't run 24/7)

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, the problem is fixed. Windows has been reinstalled.

Now I get the fun of re-installing all my drivers back on the PC.

Start it in Safe Mode and if that doesnt work then your windows install is prolly nuked
if it starts in safe mode run malwarebytes and then run microsoft security essentials(i've found that actually works better than even bitdefender) and then profit???

Agreed, Kaspersky is the top AV IMO

All is good. The PC is completely functional. Just need to get the drivers for the bluetooth and the printer downloaded and I'm back in business.

Regarding safe mode, I tried that but I was getting the same error as to where the page would freeze on loading files.

Once again, thanks for all the help.
