Uber Self Righteous Douche: Rand Fishkin - is at it again. He wants to be the voice of SEO so bad... who listens to this "sucker of Matt Cutts CUNT"?

Rand FishkinMay 7, 2012 - Public
We're working on a spam research project here at SEOmoz with the eventual goal of classifying, identifying and removing/limiting link juice passed from sites/pages we're pretty sure Google would call webspam. A score (or scores) of some kind would (eventually, assuming the project goes well) be included in Mozscape/OSE showing the spamminess of inlinks/outlinks.

We're certainly not going to be as good at it or as scaled as Google (and thus our algorithms will be relatively conservative and focused on only the most obvious and manipulative forms), but it's making for interesting research already.

Some of our team members, though, do have concerns about whether SEOs will be angry that we're "exposing" spam. My feeling is that it's better to have the knowledge out there (and that anything we can catch, Google/Bing can surely better catch and discount) then to keep it hidden. I'm also hopeful this can help a lot of marketers who are trying to decide whether to acquire certain links or who have to dig themselves out of a penalty (or reverse what might have caused it).

Would love your thoughts/feedback! Obviously, this is at the very early stages, but want to make sure we consider all the perspectives.

WTF? Why (other than to sell another module of your SHITTY SEO tool) would anyone even bother to do this?

I hope he gets sued for this shit.

If this is repost, suck my cock and deal with it.

..who listens to this..
Most of the SEO industry.

If you don't like it, do something about it. Create a better product that better represents the SEO community as a whole and show that Rand's seoMoz is as inferior as you think it is.

The only SEO blog that I can think of off the top of my head that produces actionable content I regularly learn from is Microsite Masters.

It's easy to sit back and complain about the way seoMoz preaches their own flavor of SEO as though it's the only way to do things, I do it all the time, but it's not going to change anything.

Don't give a shit about his preaching, but making a tool which is nothing but a method for tons of his douchey users to use to basically report other webmaster's sites to google? Not cool.

Just start gargling Matt Cutts' balls and be done with it.

This prick is the self appointed hall monitor of the SEO world and he's such a fucking bell. Got one of those annoying, smug faces you just want to slap.

One thing those of us who think Fushkin is a douche can do: BLOCK HIS SEOMOZ ROGERBOT!

Code:
robots.txt:

User-agent: rogerbot
Disallow: /

Does nothing to alleviate potential issues with his new tool though.

Who cares? You seriously don't think Google already has similar data?

So exactly who is this hurting?

I would welcome a tool like this because I get to see what another algorithm determines is spammy or not spammy.

And you guys should especially like it because...

more data means more useful blog posts for me to write :)

Google does have similar data, but it's harder for them to action upon it. They know that lots of the biggest brands on the web have spammy backlinks making up their portfolio. It's a sorta "we look the other way" kinda thing.

Someone coming out and saying "Look at all these websites and all their crappy links that are ranking and making loads of money" makes Google look bad, and in turn could force Google to do something to stem the PR shitstorm.

You can imagine them putting together reports and publishing them in blog posts which go viral and get tons of attention, forcing Google to manually review sites down, etc etc..

I'm sure RF couldn't give a flying fuck about threads like this bashing him... until you're doing $18 million in revenue off of a SaaS you probably shouldn't be talking. He knows that everything he does and says has dollar signs attached to it, which is why he does and says these things. Think of the exposure that one Google+ post alone gave him and his business.

Let the guy continue to create useless junk for "SEOs" to use to basically determine nothing. Fuck 'em! You writing posts about this shit is an ineffective use of your time... time which could have gone to something far more productive: building a business that will out-earn his.

This has the potential to hurt many people. Essentially making butthurt cookie cutter SEOMoz'ians "Hall Monitors" for Google.

I am aware that Google has the info. But when pressure via snitching
becomes a factor, then they might amend their definition of spam to appease these douchbags.

Meh... but what I know?

You think a $180 billion company is going to majorly change around their algorithm to appease a $75 million company?

Or that SEOMoz's algorithm is going to add anything extra to Google? The only reason SEOMoz is doing this is to sell it to their own customers. This has nothing to do with snitching to Google but everything to do with making SEOMoz seem more relevant when everybody is panicking about their rankings going down.

So continue your bitching while everyone else adapts.

How many "fucktards" that drink SEOMoz's Kool-Aid also have large PPC spends? Something to think about.

Google is not strictly a search engine anymore, they are an ad serving platform by and large. And the customer (when it affects a corps bottom line) is always right.

I'll help you out with a graph I just made:

The vast majority of people who user Google (both as advertisers and as consumers) do not use SEOMoz and have never even heard of them.

And you are really stretching logic if you are trying to make the argument that Google will implement SEOMoz's search suggestions because they then hope that causes more SEOMozers to spend more on Adwords because they've been appeased to.

Now back to fucking chickens.

I honestly had nothing to do with the tags. There is only one "Chicken Fucker" thankfully.

While we're utilizing graphs: Here's one depicting the likelihood of an Open Source Software Developer forcing Google to amend a penalty assigned to them via Penguin:

Yet it happened: (*WPMU*)

I am not playing "tit for tat" with you. If this of no concern to you, more power to you. I for one feel it opens the gates for frivolous complaints that will in all likelihood have some weight behind them when some butthurt "white hat SEO" cries when he is outranked by me and my dripfeed blast subscription. Having said that, I am a customer of your service... So my hat is off to you in many regards.
