Just got my first true mechanical keyboard

I just got mine in this last week too. Amazing!
The thing is heavy like a brick. I can definitely club some seals with it.

One of the best keyboards evah, Northgate. Adjustable click too.

ahhhh ok, i thought it was a new technology, i know what ur talking about. DAMN i miss that northgate keyboard, i remember that.

Damn I thought op was making a joke and/or going to get ripped for talking about such a geeky thing. But wow all you guys are into the oldschool KBs interesting.

You make good arguments for it too haha.. I love the backlit-keys keyboard that is super awesome.

Nice.

While not the most comfy for long typing sessions etc, a lil' tip for any music/multimedia producers here - You should grab a flexible they're great to have for any studio where you're bouncing around gear and different tables/setups: Wireless and is fairly responsive as a controller too.

If someone made a good ergonomically one I would probably try it. But really we are talking about a keyboard, and I highly doubt it makes that much of a difference that it's worth the price. The occasional missed letter means you probably just means you're not as good at typing as you think, we all make mistakes and some keyboard isn't going to solve that.

I've been slowly dialing in my workstation setup for the last few months and I think I finally finished things up today by getting one of these in the mail:

It has the Cherry MX Blues in it, which means it's nice and clicky. I'm still getting used to it overall (was using a flat style keyboard before this) but I can already tell that I'm liking it a lot and that I'll be a better typist because of it. It is loud as hell though, so I could see it annoying people you live with or share office space with.

also, not having the numberpad is awesome, keeps the mouse a tad closer.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This goon spending all that dorah on a keyboard. Did you not see the nice sleek generic black ones @ walmart for the low low price of $9.95? That's what I use and I issue to all my employee's at my office. ..........One of my friends bought a "razer mamba" for $200 bux.

Remember... these gaming accessories won't buy you skill. If you suck at a game, move on... Theres a few online games I play and I own mother fuckers with my $10 walmart keyboard and like... $15 best buy logitec mouse.

People will blow money on shit tho that carries that persons interest. For example my guns, ammo, ghillie suits (lol), shtf stuff - far to much on scuba equiptment but I guess some people blow it on computer mouses, keyboards, fucking blue lit up ATX cases with not 1..2..3. but 4 cooling fans. To each his own right?

ok im still partially drunk from something a bit earlier so ill stop ranting. /lulz

...im just fuckin with you dchuk, but it aint gonna increase your skillzzzz

Unless you're into gaming, the apple keyboard is pretty dope. I can type damn fast and with perfect accuracy on a mac. I'm pretty sure it would be faster than a mechanical keyboard since you have to move your hands and fingers less (less distance). 99.8% of my errors are because I make stupid mistakes... not because the keyboard isn't loud as fuck while I type.

If you guys want a loud keyboard to "improve your skills" then go get a fucking typewriter. Faggots.

I have Cherry MX Red - K90 from Corsair.

Has 3 profile layouts, 18 custom keys, etc. Great for MMO. I need my numpad and media keys! That's why I chose this one.

I like to think of mechanical keyboards as the diet pills of that industry, they can claim wherever they want, but show me the goods. Since I normally work on a Microsoft 4000 ergonomically keyboard naturally going on my laptop chicklet style keyboard I'm going to make more errors. I highly doubt you'll notice any real difference between a mechanical and non mechanical if you regularly use the same keyboard.

There's no study that proves mech keyboards will make you a better typer, a better gamer, make less mistakes, etc etc, they just feel nice.

I know a lot of you guys pay $x,xxx for a nice chair, which can be justified by the amount of use you get out of it. Same thing applies for a keyboard.

you can't really knock one of these keyboards until you try one, they're a really unique experience. It's hard to describe something as subtle as the variations in keyboards, but I know all of us gay webmasters know what a shitty keyboard feels like, so it's logical to think that we can all just tell when we found a good keyboard.

I do like flat keyboards (I still love my macbook air's keyboard) but there's something really satisfying about these mechanical keyboards. And considering my entire livelihood depends on my ability to type (both writing and coding), $78 for a keyboard is nothing.

I totally understand, my life resolves around the same thing. The point is that there is not a difference as you make it sound it is. Non ergonomic - > ergonomic is a big jump. But outside of that, good luck.

I have a $1000 Herman Miller embody, based on my last office chairs that costs a fraction of it, they are not nearly on the same level. On the other side we are talking about keyboards which won't make that much of a difference.

Used to work on a mechanical keyboard and LOOVED it.

Then RSI hit me... now I have a thin backlit Logitech.

Best KB ever.

I typed on a shitty $9.95 keyboard for years and it damaged my fingers and arms to the point I couldn't type anymore. I eventually got an ergonomic keyboard (which I paid out the ass for) and it fixed all my problems. If you're going to spend 15 hours a day typing you might as well get the best tool you can. There's a reason why mechanics buy several high quality wrenches instead of a $9.95 all purpose wrench.

I do miss mechanical keyboards though. I remember raging and throwing one against a brick wall. The only thing that happened was a few keys popped off. Try doing that with any modern keyboard.
