Social bookmarking is a great traffic method. It helps a site to get indexed quicker and helps for ranking and link diversity. Over posting can be detrimental. Programs are tempting as well but you shouldn't post all your bookmarks at once. submit slowly and make it look natural.
Until you get comfortable with your flow and recipe for getting a site to rank it is always a good idea to start slow. Start building links to your deep URLS.
I would say order a light bookmark package for each deeplink. Ping them a couple of times, maybe blast the bookmarks with comments.
The key thing is consistency - slow and steady link building is always the safest route.
So yes, bookmarks (in my opinion) and long with high PR blog posts are solid ways to see some bumps in the SERP rankings.
