So this is night 3 of me wondering around WickedFire. I've learned almost nothing yet at least 16hr's of reading ebooks and websites that i've stumbled into. I even bought micro niche finder (yea i dont know why either). I want to understand why i'm using these type of tools, then buy them. I know google adwords & keywords can do it, i just dont know what its doing.

I'm a REAL noob. Not a "noob" that knows what he needs to learn. So here is what i'm saying. I know NOTHING about NOTHING. I want to learn the very basics. I dont know a damn thing about SEO, nothing about backlinks, meta data, ect ect ect. I guess i'm the step before noob, like total fucking idiot!

When i got into hardware repair i did ok. Sure i know a pc needs a MB, Ram, CPU, PSU, HDD CD-ROM and Case to work. However i didn't become the hardware guru until i learned the (early) A+. It gave me the underlying understanding of how things work at the basic levels. That made everything click for me.

I'm dying to learn the basics! Surely i'm either over complicating this, or overlooking something in plain sight.

p.s. I do own 71 domains. But the crap i host for my clients is your typical NO seo required stuff. Like government sites for local county officials ect. So i do know the basics of putting a website together, but nothing about SEO.

You nailed it. I almost mentioned i want to try niche marketing. However i want to learn SEO not money making. I'd like to be able to apply seo and make money later. I just don't see how i can be successful at any IM without understanding SEO.

I just found a SEO thread over at Traffic & Content. Looks like it is going to explain SEO basics like links, BH and the like. This may be exactly what i'm looking for.

Hi enuro,

I was in your shoes about 1 month ago. I knew jack shit. What's a backlink? PR? SERP? WHAT IS WORDPRESS? (I kidd you not). Here is what I did: 250-300 hours of research/reading/asking questions/watching youtube video and tutorials, and above all started doing. I would start somewhere and then have 30 tabs open and 6 hours later be on a different topic. Over time however the bits fall into place. You have to want it tho. Good luck.

Fact that you know that the words meta data and backlinks exists suggessts that you do know atleast something.

Here is what you do.
1. Make a Blog about your hometown. Something that people do not search a lot for.
2. Your hometown will be called "keyword"
3. Write original content on that blog.
4. Write an article why your blog is a good place for readers to be at.
5. Submit that article to Free Articles Directory | Submit Articles - ArticlesBase.com
6. Add a link in the form of an anchor text (look at w3schools on how to do that)
7. Put the anchor link at the end of your article in the about author section of Article Base.
8. In the keywords section of ArticleBase, add the word that you thought of in step 2.
9. Submit.
10. Now head on over to Digg.Com and submit the approved article link to them. Its free.
11. Submitting a link to Digg is called Social Bookmarking.
12. Repeat steps 4 - 12 around five times.
13. After a few days, search for your "keyword" in google.
14. Your site should be at #1.
15. That's SEO Bitch.
16. Thats baby SEO Bitch.

SEO is dying. You're better off learning how to build a brand and retaining an audience (list-building being a very rudimentary example).

I find it rather difficult to believe that SEO will ever die till a new ranking system comes into play.

Shall I get my popcorn while you explain?

Search engines won't die, but you just can't rule out the possibility of them becoming increasingly efficient and proficient at thwarting SEO efforts. Having your own loyal audience will ensure you sleep well for years to come, while you chuckle every time you come across a "FUUUUUU GOOGLE DEINDEXED ALL 500 OF MY SITES" thread on WF or the Google webmaster forum.
