The wife thinks my Flip HD isn't a "real" video camera and she's been on my ass to buy one so we get all of the kids events on video. I'm not in touch with the vid camera market whatsoever and just want something that's easy to use, but good quality. I'd like to keep it in the $350 to $500 range and I'm open to any recommendations. Thanks.

My sister in-law recently picked up a Canon Vixia HF R21 for $399 and it takes some pretty good HD video from what I have seen. Seems easy enough to use and decent quality for the price.

Canon T3 is $500 with a kit lens, only does 720p, but it lets you upgrade lenses to have sweet depth of field and low light video capabilities. (Plus it takes pictures)

T1i is the same, but 1080p and $600.

Tell your wife not to give you shit and if she wants another camera to buy it herself :)

I thought of going down that road, then realized she would order the most expensive piece of dog shit camera on Amazon after having done absolutely no research.

I would guess that his wife would not consider those to be a "real" video cameras either.
